Role Overview

Senior engineering role within the Reactor Island Civil & Structural team, reporting to the team leader. Responsible for leading development and delivery of structural analysis activities, supporting the design and substantiation of critical reactor structures and contributing to the overall safety case for the programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, execution and interpretation of finite element analysis models to support structural design and substantiation.
  • Define analysis approaches, including model fidelity, to address complex structural behaviours and loading conditions.
  • Support development of safety‑classified structures through robust, traceable analytical evidence aligned to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure analysis outputs inform and influence evolving design.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent demonstrable industry experience).
  • Experience leading structural analysis activities and delivering engineering solutions within infrastructure or other regulated, safety‑critical environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of finite element analysis, structural behaviour, and relevant design codes and standards.
  • Experience in analysis of reinforced concrete and/or steel structures, including consideration of complex loading scenarios such as seismic, thermal, pressure, or extreme events.
  • Chartered status and nuclear industry experience desirable but not essential.

Benefits

  • Salary: £48,000–£63,000 per annum.
  • Performance‑related bonus opportunity of 7% target.
  • Benefits Allowance: £2,200 per annum.
  • Pension: 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays: 28 days plus public holidays, with option to buy/sell up to 4 days.
  • Private medical insurance (BUPA) and life assurance (6× pensionable pay).
  • One‑off payment of £250 for new starters to support home office purchases.
