Location: Hybrid working based in either Derby, Warrington or Manchester (closest location).

Overview: Rolls‑Royce SMR is developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to provide clean, affordable, low‑carbon energy. The CSA Installation & Modular Integration team translates complex design into site‑ready solutions, driving innovation in layout, constructability and modularisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead delivery of integrated, site‑specific Reactor Island layouts derived from the Generic Design.
  • Translate generic design intent into compliant, buildable solutions.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across Structures, Systems, Components and Conventional Island to achieve fully integrated outcomes.
  • Own configuration, requirements and variant management, ensuring robust governance and traceability of design evolution.
  • Manage the federated CAD model for Reactor Island and align with architecture, access, safety and zoning strategies.
  • Develop and own delivery plans, manage risk, and drive performance against cost, quality and schedule.
  • Build and lead a high‑performing team, support capability growth, coach staff and deploy resources effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Degree‑qualified in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with Chartered status (or working towards).
  • Experience delivering complex layout or installation design programmes from concept to detailed definition within regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering, requirements management (e.g. DOORS), configuration control and gated design review processes.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, integrating multidisciplinary inputs and managing technical and programme risk.
  • Aware of nuclear or highly regulated industry standards, with exposure to international codes/regulations considered advantageous.

Benefits:

  • Salary: £60,000 – £78,750
  • Performance‑related bonus target opportunity of 12.5%
  • Benefit allowance: £2,200 per annum (bespoke package)
  • Pension: 12% employer + 6% employee contributions
  • Holidays: 28 days + public holidays, option to buy or sell up to 4 days
  • Private medical insurance (BUPA single cover)
  • Life assurance: 6x pensionable pay (£250 one‑off payment for new starters)
