About the Role

The Electrical Systems function is responsible for defining and delivering the electrical infrastructure that underpins the SMR power station. Electrical Systems Analysis plays a critical role in supporting concept development, design maturation and technical assurance across the plant lifecycle. As a Lead Engineer – Electrical Systems Analysis, you will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of electrical systems, focusing on leading system studies and defining analysis methods to support robust engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electrical system models to support analysis and design maturation.
  • Perform and review electrical studies, including steady‑state and dynamic system analysis.
  • Support concept evaluation, requirement validation and design decision‑making.
  • Produce high‑quality calculations, assumption registers and substantiation reports.
  • Present analysis outputs and recommendations at design reviews.
  • Identify and communicate risks, uncertainties, assumptions and design margins.
  • Act as an intelligent customer for specialist analysis delivered by partners or suppliers.
  • Support verification, technical assurance and safety case development activities.
  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to other engineers.

Key Skills

  • Strong experience in electrical power system analysis across HV and LV systems.
  • Experience developing, using and interpreting electrical system models.
  • Experience performing studies to support design development and substantiation.
  • Knowledge of electrical sub‑disciplines such as protection, earthing, generation, distribution or battery systems.
  • Strong understanding of analysis tools, codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience using analysis software and producing robust technical outputs.
  • Experience with data integration, modelling consistency and traceability.
  • Ability to use scripting or automation to improve analysis efficiency (desirable).
  • Understanding of systems‑engineering principles, including requirements and interface management.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to stakeholders.
  • Proven technical leadership capability, including reviewing outputs and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience within nuclear is beneficial; candidates from Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive or Oil & Gas are also encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Degree‑qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

Location

Hybrid working with one of the following as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington.

Salary and Package

Salary band £60,000 – £78,750, depending on skills, values and knowledge.

Benefits include:

  • Pension – 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
