This role is based in a hybrid working environment with primary offices in Derby, Warrington, or Manchester. The successful candidate will lead the development of fire safety strategies across the SMR power station design, influencing plant architecture, supporting design integration, and ensuring the fire protection approach is robust, compliant, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement fire protection strategies for the entire nuclear site design.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and guidance within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Define and manage fire safety requirements throughout the full design lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Safety Case, Systems Engineering, Layout, C&I, Civil/Structural, and Mechanical teams to deliver integrated and coherent solutions.
- Communicate effectively on safety, technical rigour, and compliance with all stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience in fire protection, fire safety engineering, or fire system development.
- Ability to manage engineering deliverables through full lifecycle stages.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of fire codes, standards, and regulatory expectations.
- Experience influencing multidisciplinary teams and integrating safety into large, complex designs.
Location
Hybrid working with regular attendance at one of the Manchester, Derby or Warrington offices depending on project requirements.
Salary & Benefits
Salary: £50,650–£66,500 DOE, 12.5% bonus. Benefits: £2,200 benefits allowance, 12% employer pension, 28 days leave, BUPA medical cover, life assurance, and a £250 home‑office allowance.

Applicants will be required to satisfy nuclear industry safety regulations including: Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Satisfactory basic financial probity check.
