Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester.

The Team: The Mechanical Handling team designs the equipment and systems that enable safe, efficient movement, installation and maintenance of major plant assets throughout the power station lifecycle. We provide technical leadership, governance and innovation across a complex and diverse product scope, supporting the SMR programme from concept to delivery.

Summary: We are looking for a Manager – Mechanical Handling (BoMH) to lead the delivery, development and governance of mechanical handling equipment across the product lifecycle. Reporting to the Senior Manager for Mechanical Handling, this role provides strategic leadership, drives technical excellence and builds the capability needed to deliver a highly integrated power station design.

Key Deliverables: We’ll need you to:

  • Lead, manage and develop the Mechanical Handling team to deliver through-life product solutions.
  • Embed and improve configuration, change and technical governance processes.
  • Own product scope across the commodity group, managing baselines, interfaces and stakeholders.
  • Drive robust mechanical design, analysis and integration into the overall power station model.

This is a high‑profile leadership role requiring strategic thinking, technical authority and first‑class people leadership to shape capability, influence direction and guide a developing engineering organisation.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading mechanical or electro‑mechanical design teams in complex, regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of lifecycle delivery, design governance and safety justification.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, manage change and influence technical and strategic direction.

We’ll ask about your experience developing teams, resolving complex engineering challenges and driving cross‑functional collaboration.

Location: Hybrid working with regular attendance at our Derby, Manchester or Warrington offices, depending on project and business needs.
