The Controls and Automation Technical Support Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and validation of advanced control and instrumentation systems supporting sustainable energy solutions, including microgrids, renewable generation, and energy storage systems.
What you will be doing:
- Full lifecycle responsibility for microgrid and distributed energy control systems, from concept through to deployment and operational support.
- Covers systems including:
- Energy storage systems (BESS)
- Grid-connected and islanded microgrids
- Energy Management Systems (EMS) and SCADA interfaces
- Integration of third‑party renewables.
- Involves real‑time control, automation, and optimisation algorithms.
- Requires integration across power systems, embedded software, and digital platforms.
- Supports both new designs, installations and optimisation of existing energy assets.
Key responsibilities:
- System design and analysis including simulation and modelling.
- Verification, validation and testing including continuous improvements.
- Planning, documentation and reporting.
Position Qualifications:
- Min 2‑3 years’ experience.
- Appropriate qualifications in Electrical Engineering or similar relevant qualification or demonstrable industry experience.
- Must have experience with B&R Automation Studio.
- IEC61131‑3 Structured Text (ST).
- Strong background in control systems and power systems engineering.
- Experience with renewable energy systems and/or microgrids.
- Knowledge of energy management systems (EMS), SCADA, and real‑time control.
- Understanding of UK Grid codes, power system dynamics, and energy markets.
Preferred requirements:
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and systems thinking skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary team.
- Full and Clean Driving Licence, UK Passport Holder.
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken English.
- Must be willing to travel when required in the UK and Europe.
