Position Summary: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Capability Lead to join the Model Based Software Engineering team. The Capability Lead develops people, processes and tools for the software development and verification of high integrity systems using models as a means of designing and simulating solutions. This includes accountability for developing engineering personnel with the knowledge and skills to create and maintain software architectures and designs and supporting verification, delivering capability improvements, and ensuring standards and regulations are adhered to.

The high integrity Model Based Software Engineering function develops software Product Line solutions for all new Rolls‑Royce Aerospace products. The team works within a global capability group that includes teams at Rolls‑Royce sites in Indianapolis and Friedrichshafen. This global function creates, develops, and improves Model Based Software Engineering best practices applied across Rolls‑Royce.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide technical leadership for the Engineering resource group, ensuring compliance with agreed processes, corporate methodology, regulatory requirements and engineering lifecycle reviews.
  • Create and maintain robust resource plans to meet delivery commitments, budgets and future business needs, including recruitment, subcontracting and integration with partners and other resource groups.
  • Ensure the required capabilities, skills and resources are identified and sustained in order to execute business strategy and programme needs.
  • Lead, develop and performance manage team members, ensuring clear objectives, appropriate training, professional development, reward management, HSE and security responsibilities.
  • Act as the focal point for communication within and on behalf of the resource group, managing functional interfaces and, where appropriate, relationships between engineering and the supply chain.
  • Drive continuous improvement, operational best practice and effective knowledge management through lessons learnt, knowledge capture, process review and collaboration across the group and wider business.

Position qualifications:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates sound engineering judgement and knowledge of our customers and programmes.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership & engineering skills.
  • Capable of building high performing teams and effecting a positive shift in attitudes and behaviours.
  • Understanding of Company Quality policies and processes deployed within the resource group.
  • Experienced in applying process improvement techniques and driving business improvements.
