Product Definition Engineers are responsible for the output of high-quality Engineering Definitions and CAD Master Models across the UK Defence product base, ensuring that the technical and safety integrity of a design is maintained in accordance with company procedures. You will be creating and (where adequate capability has been demonstrated) checking the definition, as well as ensuring engineering standards are adhered to and design intent is met. You will also ensure that components satisfy fit, form and functional requirements and are optimised for manufacture.
You could be working within our Mature Programmes or Future Programmes environment. This will mean that the chosen individual will need to be capable of working with either existing legacy and fleet definitions/drawings or working on new component definitions being created wholly in a digital format (Model Based Definitions – MBD). Managing and maintaining data integrity is vital to this role, so attention to detail is an important quality.
You will be working in multi-disciplined teams, so it’s essential that you have strong communication and interpersonal skills that will allow you to integrate with all people throughout the organisation, at all levels, to ensure the effective resolution of product definition related issues. There will also be potential to extend your skillset into adjacent disciplines, such as System Design, Component Design, Stress, Configuration Management and Repair Engineering.
What you will be doing:
- Preparing, developing and maintaining 3D master CAD models, relevant documentation, Model Based Definitions (MBDs) or technical drawings to meet engineering standards and downstream requirements.
- Managing and incorporating Drawing Alteration Requests (DARs), concessions and continuous design updates.
- Creating specialised bespoke models for analysis or manufacturing purposes.
- Working collaboratively to ensure component definitions are aligned with design intent and manufacturability.
- Producing tolerance stack-ups to support new product validation and in-service investigations.
- Actively promoting, encouraging and supporting the identification and implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes, methods and guidance material).

- Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a systems-level mindset.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Ability to plan and deliver to challenging deadlines.
