Mechanical Design Engineer – Secondary Propulsion (12‑Month Secondment)

Submarines – Derby, full time, 12‑month secondment.

Job Overview

In this role you will design and deliver components and sub‑assemblies for the Dreadnought Class Propulsor, supporting the required‑in‑yard date.

You will perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and design validation, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, participate in design reviews and risk assessments, manage engineering change, maintain design documentation and provide technical support to production, suppliers and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver components and sub‑assemblies for the Dreadnought Class Propulsor.
  • Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and design validation activities.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Materials, Project and Chief Engineering teams.
  • Participate in and hold design reviews, risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage engineering change and maintain accurate design records and documentation.
  • Provide technical support to production, suppliers and customers as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant Engineering/Science degree and Chartered Engineer status.
  • Knowledge of design approval & change control processes.
  • Understanding of product safety cases and regulatory processes.
  • Experience with through‑life management requirements.
  • Project management skills.
  • Security Clearance & Eligibility

To work with Rolls‑Royce Submarines you must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats.

Rolls‑Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not already have it.

Ideally you will hold or be willing to attain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

The role requires UK nationality; dual nationals will need additional scrutiny and background checks before commencing work.
