A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Lab Technologist within the Repair Special Process Group, based within the Repair Organisation and working closely with Repair Design, Repair Implementation and MRO teams. The role covers all parts of Civil Large Engines repaired at Overhaul Bases and specialist repair vendors both domestically and internationally. Occasional travel within the UK and internationally may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure process compliance to National and International Standards through the generation and maintenance of Overhaul Process Manuals.
  • Interpret design, engineering requirements and other standards to ensure shop applications remain in compliance.
  • Approve process data cards/procedures, processes and Methods of Manufacture for Overhaul Bases and Repair Partners.
  • Compile and maintain Overhaul Process and Overhaul Material manuals for all Civil Large Engine Programs, ensuring these deliver cost‑effective, high‑quality repairs.
  • Work closely with diverse teams within Rolls‑Royce and external vendors to advance specific processes and resolve manufacturing problems.
  • Act as a specialist point of contact for the Product Control Authority (PCA), Manufacturing Engineering team and external vendors to guide requirements for method/process changes.
  • Review technical reports, including microstructural evaluation and acceptance of test samples from multiple special processes, to ensure repair requirements are met.
  • Drive continuous improvement and control activities to reduce process variation, including identifying opportunities for data capture and process centering.
  • Support selection, justification and publication of new materials and processes into the repair manuals.

Basic and Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level in Materials Science, Metallurgy or an appropriate Engineering discipline, or evidence of relevant and suitable industry experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Data‑driven approach to problem solving.
