An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in the Turbine Blade Facility in Derby. As a Manufacturing Engineer you will be working in the Turbine Blade Facility Manufacturing Engineering team within the Turbines commodity, which is one of the fastest growing and advanced business units within the Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace Supply Chain. The TBF is a high-volume machining facility manufacturing a wide variety of single crystal turbine blades. The successful candidate will join the TBF Manufacturing Engineering Tooling and Geometry team and will be responsible for the product specific tooling, geometry tasks and validation activity on any one of the parts within the facility. As well as significant rate increases and validation of new component standards the TBF is undergoing change in terms of investment in new equipment, gaining new capabilities and increasing our flexibility. You will actively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineering, to support Design for Manufacture (DFM) reviews and ensure product designs are optimized for manufacturability and robust geometry solutions from initial concept through to production release. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have technical responsibility for the tooling and geometry within the manufacturing method. You will be accountable for developing and designing the tooling required for New Product Introduction (NPI) and delivering Quality Cost and Delivery (QCD) improvement activity associated with tooling and geometry improvements. This can include yield improvement activity, validation of new tooling for business continuity and rate increases, PPAP and support to the Operations teams on the shop floor. The success of the Tooling and Geometry Team has a direct impact on TBF business performance and as such the Manufacturing Engineer role will provide an excellent development opportunity for the successful candidate.
What you will be doing:
- Lead the design, development, and validation of product-specific tooling and geometry solutions to support New Product Introduction and rate increases.
- Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) and cross-functional reviews, collaborating with Design teams to ensure manufacturability and optimal geometry solutions throughout the product lifecycle.
- Deliver targeted Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) improvements through tooling and geometry optimisation, supporting yield and rate improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical support to operations, ensuring robust implementation and troubleshooting of tooling, fixturing, and geometry validation procedures on the shop floor.
- Establish and maintain tooling and fixturing standards for the manufacturing method ensuring compliance with Rolls-Royce and regulatory requirements.
- Manage tooling procurement and lifecycle activities—including supplier engagement, rapid prototyping, and capital cost schemes to ensure business continuity and operational excellence.
Position qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline (mechanical, manufacturing, or equivalent); professional accreditation (e.g., Chartered Engineer or national equivalent) preferred.
- Technical proficiency in manufacturing method creation and control, manufacturing geometry and CNC/fixturing technology; hands‑on experience with modelling tools.
- Proven track record of delivering change and continuous improvement within a production or engineering environment, ideally in high‑volume machining or aerospace manufacturing.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and influence key decisions across teams.
- Awareness of manufacturing systems, quality standards (e.g., PPAP, APQP), and enabling software tools; familiarity with supply chain, procurement, and export control procedures is desirable.
