Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. We are uniquely positioned to become a world leader in SMR technology and the UK's premier green export.
The Sites and Civils team is responsible for ensuring our SMR technology can be successfully deployed across a range of customer sites and operating environments. Working at the forefront of civil engineering, design integration and nuclear infrastructure development, the team plays a critical role in translating our standard plant design into site-specific solutions for customers around the world.
We are looking for a Manager - Civil & Structural to support the Head of Sites and Civils and lead the development of civil and structural engineering solutions for our first Vattenfall site-specific project. Managing a growing team of approximately 10-15 engineers, secondees and supply chain partners, this is a significant leadership opportunity that will help shape the successful delivery of one of the most important programmes within Rolls-Royce SMR.
We'll need you to:
- Lead and develop the site-specific Civil & Structural team, ensuring the successful delivery of a fully integrated power station design across the programme lifecycle.
- Provide technical and people leadership across all civil engineering structures, systems and components, driving delivery against programme, cost, quality and performance objectives.
- Manage complex design integration activities, coordinating internal engineering disciplines, external suppliers and delivery partners to ensure seamless programme execution.
- Drive the physical adaptation of the RR SMR reference design to meet site-specific customer requirements, while maintaining consistency across the wider programme portfolio.
- Champion health, safety and environmental excellence across all designated activities, ensuring compliance with programme policies and industry standards.
- Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture which prioritises wellbeing, development and continuous improvement.
- Support the wider Vattenfall Design Management Team, contributing to programme governance, delivery planning and strategic decision making.
- Engage with customers, regulators, statutory authorities, utility providers and external stakeholders to support project development, planning, permitting and delivery activities.
- Provide wider engineering support to business development opportunities and prospective customer engagements as required.
This is a high-profile leadership position at the heart of a first-of-a-kind deployment programme. You'll combine engineering excellence, commercial awareness and inspirational leadership to help deliver a transformational clean energy project while developing the next generation of engineering talent.
What we're looking for:
- A relevant Engineering degree together with Chartered Engineer status through ICE, IStructE or an equivalent professional body.
- Demonstrable experience leading complex engineering programmes, managing multidisciplinary teams, technical delivery, budgets and performance metrics within large-scale infrastructure or highly regulated environments.
- Significant Civil & Structural design leadership experience with a strong track record of delivering major engineering projects involving complex design integration challenges.
- Experience of nuclear infrastructure, site development or other highly regulated industries, with an understanding of the interfaces between civil engineering systems, structures and components.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with customers, supply chain partners and key stakeholders, providing effective leadership throughout project development and delivery.
- Experience implementing new ways of working, driving continuous improvement and developing high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring and inclusive leadership.
- Knowledge of planning, permitting, regulatory engagement, utility interfaces and interactions with statutory authorities would be advantageous.
We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Whilst location is flexible, regular travel to Rolls-Royce SMR offices, customer locations and partner sites will be required to support programme delivery.
