About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Company Specialist for Assembly, Disassembly and Test (AD&T) acting with Group wide accountability to define, lead and deliver our Corporate strategy associated with current and future AD&T manufacturing and digital value stream technologies. At Rolls‑Royce, we are continually driving Operational performance through application of advantaged technology whilst also defining and influencing the future facility needs for products yet to enter the marketplace. This role will play a pivotal part in connecting our existing network of Manufacturing Specialists, Leaders and Engineers in shaping the strategy and setting the standards and policies to ensure that current and future AD&T network maximise Operational performance through technology acquisition, commonality, application and sharing, whilst also influencing our future product designs to ensure efficient, competitive Operations optimised to deliver required rate and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Create group wide technology visions and strategy to drive transformation for our AD&T Operational facilities (both existing and new high volume) with clear benefits aligned to Corporate and division needs, creating new group standards and technology requirements build upon group synergies.
  • Understand the current constraints within existing Operations in order to meet their future state value stream maps, sharing and deploying best practice and developing common technology to meet the sector needs for Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery challenges.
  • Working with Procurement and our partners to develop lean, digitally connected supply chain for key safety, quality and productivity benefits.
  • Own technology roadmaps for AD&T in the Manufacturing Processes & Digital Taxonomy, developing it through an effective “Communities of Practice” to ensure synchronisation within our technology portfolio.
  • Developing and maintaining the AD&T Group level technology policies and standards, ensuring they support the organisation’s business objectives and external regulatory requirements.
  • Provide thought leadership Design, Manufacturing and Assembly to identify how future design rules influence AD&T activities for optimum life cycle benefits and enable future integrated technology visions around Automation, Digital and Inspection capabilities.
  • Develop our future facility modelling capability for AD&T to support optimum facility performance standards.
  • Support future capital schemes for AD&T to ensure strategic alignment to technology selection, application and execution – driving standardisation across divisions.
  • Lead the Group level activities on R&T requirements, leading their approval and funding processes, launch and delivery through the appropriate networks to industrialise at pace to our supply chain.
  • Act as a mentor for engineers involved in the community integration of AD&T activities, ensuring that there is adequate pipeline of talent, including specific development of individuals, succession planning and professional growth.
  • Manage our collective associated knowledge, standards and best practice in a globally accessible environment including the relevant training solutions.
  • External representation to share and seek knowledge to drive improvements in our Group and Sector capabilities and applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent, higher degree preferred).
  • UK CEng (Chartered Engineer) or other national equivalent relevant to specialist subject area.
  • Typically a member of relevant professional body/institute at Fellow level (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing advantaged technology programmes to drive Operational performance improvement in a complex assembly environment.
  • Understand and demonstrate how we influence Operational and Technical excellence from product design to facility creation.
  • Advanced knowledge of lean and agile manufacturing in a complex manufacturing and assembly environment with the ability to demonstrate how to assess current performance vs future opportunity and translate these into business value proposition.
  • Ideally an advanced understanding of facility creation and transformation for volume, rate and flow in relevant industries.
  • Experience of senior level cross functional influence to ensure we create a joined up and compelling strategic approach for transformational change and a roadmap for delivery.
  • Knowledge of relevant sector legislative requirements.
  • A passion for creating symbiotic capabilities that provide safe and rewarding production workplaces (Human Factors, safety systems, environmental compliance).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems.

Professional Level and Salary

Professional level and salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate but is anticipated to be Level B. This job is advertised at the grades shown, and this is the desired operating level for this role.
