An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Data Governance Specialist to join the digital and IT Defence team in Bristol. You will play a critical role in shaping the organisation’s data management and ensuring data quality, compliance, and effective utilisation.

You will be responsible for:

  • Data modelling, data governance, data quality assurance, process improvements, risk mitigation and training & awareness across the defence programmes.
  • Working closely with IT, export control, security, cyber and business teams to align data practices with compliance requirements.

What you will be doing:

  • Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models, define data structures, relationships, and hierarchies and ensure alignment with business requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with customer data compliance requirements.
  • Monitor data access controls and permissions.
  • Educate employees on data governance principles and best practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of data quality assurance, identify data anomalies and work with business functions to improve data quality across systems.
  • Continuously assess and enhance compliance processes related to data governance and quality, support development and implementation of data projects and propose process improvements to streamline data-related workflows.

Who we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Be flexible travelling to Japan/Italy on a regular basis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
  • Proficiency in data profiling and data modelling tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of data governance principles and data quality frameworks.
