We are looking for a Manufacturing Technician – Machinist for a 12-month contract based in Solihull on behalf of Rolls-Royce who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet’s vital power needs.
Job description – the role:
Purpose of the role:
The successful candidates will work as part of a team to contribute to our business objective of delivering Hydro mechanical assemblies & components on time to a high specification for the customer, whilst operating in accordance with safety requirements and within established procedures. These roles report directly to Production Leaders for the facility.
In this role you will be responsible for setting and operating our CNC machining centres. You will also work to exact tolerances and be accountable for measurement/inspection of all manufactured components. You will have the ability to play an active role in continuous improvement within your cell, develop existing processes and implement process improvements.
What you’ll do:
- Responsible for the production of various metal components from valves to pistons withing very tight tolerances.
- Setting and operating the machines, plant and equipment to produce various OE and Aftermarket parts.
- Making any mathematical calculations and offsets associated with the use of precision measuring instruments with adjustments and the removal of
- metal to pre-determined dimensions and features as part of the method of manufacture.
- Process Machining and carrying out all aspects of setting.
- Quality checks own work to ensure it meets the required standards and completes the relevant documentation accordingly.
- Raising of Non-Conformance documentation and assisting the Team and Management in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Maintain all relevant operational control processes such as visual management boards and planning schedules.
- Works in an integrated team to achieve the cells targets.
- Maintains equipment by ensuring TPM, 5S, calibration is adhered to.
- Follows health, safety and environmental procedures and regulations.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Production Leader.
- Recognised time-served apprenticeship, including City and Guilds NVQ 3 or equivalent experience.
- CNC machining experience, including programming and setting. Preferably on Doosan, Mazak or Matsura machinery.
The skills you’ll need:
- Basic IT literacy and ability to work to engineering drawings.
- CNC experience.
- NVQ/SVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant engineering
- discipline including completing a time-served recognised
- apprenticeship*.
