On behalf of Rolls-Royce, we are looking for a Operational Buyer for a 12-month contract based in Derby (hybrid).


Operational Buyer Job Purpose

The Operational Buyer role will manage and execute the transactional purchasing process for products and / or services across the business, including the raising of Purchase orders and undertaking purchasing activities from the request for quotation (RFQ) stage of the purchasing lifecycle through to order fulfilment for non-critical product and / or services.You will provideexcellent customer service and act a key interface role between suppliers and purchasing teams.


What youll do as an Operational Buyer:

  • Manage and process purchase orders to ensure timely supply
  • Track, expedite, and update orders to meet production needs
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data within ERP systems
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal teams
  • Support pricing updates and basic supplier negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and audit requirements
  • Resolve queries quickly to minimise operational disruption
  • Monitor order progress and communicate updates to stakeholders

The skills youll need as an Operational Buyer:

  • Procurement background
  • Purchasing process experience; ideally with knowledge of export requirements.
  • Has a proven track record of delivering results and has experience of working within a service delivery environment.
  • Agility to handle a number tasks simultaneously and to prioritise effectively.
  • Capable of processing large packages of work at high levels of accuracy.
  • Global outlook and exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working.
  • Strong customer focus background
  • Negotiation experience

  • Lean mindset

Desirable skills:

  • Ideally MCIPs qualified or equivalent.
  • Coupa (indirect purchasing) or Ivalua (direct purchasing) system experience
  • MoD sourcing
