On behalf of Rolls-Royce, we are looking for an Engineering Project Manager for a 12-month initial contract based in Derby. This role offers hybrid working with a requirement of 3 days per week onsite at our client's facility in Derby.
Purpose of the role: As an Engineering Project Manager, you would lead the end-to-end delivery of a large project focused on the integration of new chemical etching lines into an existing manufacturing facility. This role will oversee the full project lifecycle - from procurement and factory acceptance testing of specialised equipment through to on-site construction, installation, and final commissioning.
What you'll do:
- Manage building modifications
- Oversee procurement, installation, and testing of processing equipment
- Develop and maintain project plans (milestones, dependencies, critical path)
- Coordinate 10-20 parallel workstreams across engineering, construction, HSE, and operations
- Manage and coordinate external contractors and suppliers
- Lead governance activities (project meetings, steering committees, reporting)
- Track project costs (forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis)
- Ensure HSE compliance, support HAZOPs, and implement risk controls
- Apply structured delivery methods (stage-gate and phased approaches)
- Identify and mitigate risks across safety, schedule, cost, and operations
The skills you'll need:
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering complex capital projects within industrial, chemical, or engineering environments
- Experience working on projects within live/operational facilities
- Strong experience managing contractors and construction activities (e.g., building modifications, infrastructure works)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Experience in budget management, cost reporting, and forecasting
- Understanding of health & safety requirements in hazardous/process environments
- Experience running project governance frameworks and stakeholder reporting
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience delivering using structured project methodologies
Desired Criteria:
- Background in chemical, process engineering, or heavy industrial environments
- Experience supporting or leading HAZOP studies or similar risk assessments
- Experience with plant upgrades, retrofits, or brownfield projects
- Formal Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, APM)
