To support Mechanical Fitters in the overhaul, repair, assembly, and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including the preparation, cleaning, decontamination, and movement of components, ensuring all work is completed safely and to the required quality standards.

  • What You Will Be Doing
  • Assist Mechanical Fitters with dismantling, inspection, repair, and reassembly of mechanical components and equipment.
  • Carry out power washing and steam cleaning of engines, power packs, generators, and mechanical components prior to inspection and overhaul.
  • Perform decontamination activities, removing oil, grease, carbon deposits, dirt, and other contaminants in accordance with company procedures and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare components for inspection, repair, and assembly by cleaning, masking, and protecting parts where required.
  • Operate pressure washing and cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with lifting, moving, and positioning components using approved lifting equipment and manual handling techniques.
  • Prepare tools, materials, and work areas to support maintenance and overhaul activities.
  • Use basic hand and power tools under the guidance of qualified fitters.
  • Support fault finding and general mechanical tasks as directed.
  • Maintain accurate work records and report defects.
  • Follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and company procedures.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards using 5S.
  • Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements, including PPE and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Support continuous improvement and workshop production targets.
  • Position Qualifications
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Experience with pressure washing/industrial cleaning desirable.
  • Awareness of safe handling of oils, chemicals and contaminated components.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Good communication and teamwork.
  • Experience in rail, heavy engineering, manufacturing or automotive environments is advantageous.
