Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015 and is a member of the Inspired Education Group of Schools. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities abroad such as the University of Chicago, Georgetown, Princeton, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid.

The School was founded to offer progressive education in the heart of London. The School’s focus on providing an all‑round education means that high standards are expected of the boys in all areas of school life. The School provides the boys with a broad educational experience, which includes Philosophy and Thinking Skills in the curriculum, to ensure that they are able to think critically, problem‑solve, be creative and collaborative, developing a sense of social responsibility and respect for others. Our skilled staff, who have a wealth of experience, are preparing to send our pupils to leading universities in the UK, the US and elsewhere.

Wetherby Senior are looking for a Geography Teacher to join them from January 2027. The Geography Department consists of three teachers who deliver the full range of classes from Year 7 to Year 13. We are a highly successful, well‑resourced department, who enjoy our work and take pride in the positive and supportive environment we have created. Our staff benefit from three newly refurbished, subject‑specific classrooms and have access to a wide range of digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning. The School also provides Royal Geographical Society membership for all Geography teachers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsibility for high standards of teaching and learning within the classroom, including:
    • Maintain high expectations of pupils, fostering academic curiosity and supporting excellent progress and examination outcomes.
    • Deliver engaging teaching in line with departmental schemes of work, using effective assessment methods to enhance learning.
    • Provide appropriate support for pupils’ individual needs, while using rewards, sanctions, and parent communication effectively.
  • A contribution to the development of the Geography Department, including:
    • Teach Geography up to GCSE, and A Level for a suitably qualified applicant, with Physical Geography at A Level being advantageous.
    • Contribute to pupils’ enthusiasm for Geography through engaging teaching and high‑quality resources.
    • Support and contribute to the Geography Department enrichment programme.
    • Attend departmental meetings, INSET, and undertake administrative duties as directed by the Head of Department.
    • Support pupils with option choices and university applications related to the subject.
    • Assist with organising trips and encouraging participation in competitions and wider departmental activities.
  • An effective contribution to pastoral care in the School, including:
    • If required being a Tutor to a group of boys to support their academic and personal development.
    • Undertaking supervisory duties in the school as required.
  • An effective contribution to the co‑curricular programme:
    • Depending on the interests and abilities of each teacher, offer one or more activities as part of the co‑curricular programme. This might, for example, involve assisting with sport or drama, running an academic or cultural society or helping with Community Service.
