King's InterHigh is looking for a dedicated subject leader of Law and Politics to lead in our supportive and forward-thinking organisation. The Head of Subject will support the day-to-day operations of the school providing information to teachers, Heads of Key Stage and Head of Faculty regarding the progress towards the relevant sections of the school’s strategic aims and development plan. This individual will contribute to the strategic vision and ongoing development of the school, supporting the effective implementation of its values and driving continuous improvement. They will lead and manage staff within the subject area, promote high-quality teaching and learning, and ensure a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum. The role carries accountability for student progress and attainment, fostering a growth mindset and working collaboratively with senior and middle leaders to enhance academic outcomes, student satisfaction and retention.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work in co-operation with, and under the direction of, the Executive Head to provide leadership that further improves the school.
  • To undertake a sustained responsibility within the school staffing structure that ensures continued delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.
  • To contribute to a clear vision to ensure the effective implementation of the school’s identity and values.
  • Initiate and manage change and improvement to develop the school, its students, and its staff.
  • On a day-to-day basis, manage and lead direct reports and assume additional responsibilities which might, from time to time, be determined as reasonable.
  • To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole subject area and to monitor and support student progress.
  • To be accountable for student progress and development within the subject area.
  • To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
  • To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the subject, in accordance with the aims of the school and its curricular policies.
  • To promote ongoing growth mindset for the potential achievement of all students.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Have experience of teaching Law and or Politics at KS5, A Level and/or IB.
  • Be an excellent teacher of Law and/or Politics.
  • Monitor and support the wellbeing of the staff and pastoral care of the students in their subject and follow agreed intervention strategies to support student progress and wellbeing.
  • Support the Head of Key Stage and Head of Faculty as a visible and public member of the team.
  • Work closely with the Head of Faculty to manage student progress and standards across the curriculum; using data and a range of valid evidence to inform development planning; lead interventions and work closely with the Heads of Key Stage to support students.
  • Plan the academic programmes, ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures, and behaviour for learning.
  • Assume responsibility for implementing relevant sections of the School Development Plan.
  • Act as a role model and offer strong leadership to all teachers working within the Subject group, supporting, and representing the leadership team.
  • Oversee enrichment of the curriculum, including marketing activities to support prospective families to join the school.
  • Actively strengthen the relationship between home and school.
  • Act as a first escalation point for student and parent issues and concerns, ensuring clear and responsive communications to resolve matters.
  • Report on progress and developments within their subject to the Head of Faculty, Heads of Key Stage and Executive Head as required.
