The Roku Enterprise Engineering team is at the forefront of building a robust, integrated, and scalable platform that powers critical business processes across the organisation. As a cornerstone of Roku's corporate strategy, this team is instrumental in automating workflows across all Business Systems, including Supply Chain, Finance, Sales Operations, and Human Resources. By challenging traditional approaches to workflow automation, the team leverages cutting-edge engineering practices and API-driven design to streamline internal processes, boost efficiency, and deliver innovative solutions. The team's expertise spans a wide range of technologies, including Java and Python-based MicroServices, AWS/GCP cloud backend systems, Big Data technologies like Hive and Spark, and modern web applications. With a globally distributed presence across the US, India, and Europe, the team thrives on collaboration, bringing together diverse perspectives to solve complex challenges. At the heart of their success is a shared commitment to technical excellence, creativity, a strong sense of ownership, and a collaborative spirit that drives impactful results for Roku's business operations.

Roku is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Enterprise Engineering team, focused on designing, building, and deploying scalable web applications and services that power critical business processes. In this role, you will serve as a platform services developer, building innovative solutions using modern software frameworks and paradigms across a multi-tier, distributed architecture. You will drive architecture discussions, take ownership of new projects, and deliver high-quality software within tight timelines. You will partner closely with security, compliance, and cross-functional teams to ensure applications meet audit, security, and compliance requirements. This role requires a self-driven problem solver with a strong background in building large-scale software platforms, microservices, and cloud-based systems. You will also contribute to the continual improvement of engineering tools, cloud-based technologies, and development processes, playing an integral role in shaping the team's technical direction.

At Roku, AI agents do most of the keystroke-level coding. Engineers act as the technical leads for those agents — setting architecture, reviewing output, and ensuring everything meets Roku's quality bar. If you've already shipped features where an AI agent wrote the initial code and you steered it to production, or you've built fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks. And you can describe a clear, repeatable workflow: how you prompt, how you scope tasks, how you drive an agent, verify its output, and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you. At Roku, we're embracing AI as a powerful tool to amplify human creativity, accelerate innovation, and deliver better results across the company. You already have experience using AI tools — or you're excited to learn how — to enhance your work, make smarter decisions, and collaborate more effectively. Whether you're in engineering, marketing, finance, HR, or any other team, AI will be part of how you work here. We want to talk to you.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and services, contributing to web technology and framework stack decisions, use case design, and data model design.
  • Drive architecture discussions, take ownership and responsibility over new projects, and deliver high-quality software within tight timelines.
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure applications meet compliance, security, and audit requirements.
  • Participate in the continual improvement of engineering tools, cloud-based technologies and services, and development processes.
  • Define and participate in Agile development processes, including scoping, technical design, estimation, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, maintenance, and support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and demonstrate strong communication skills.
  • Develop and maintain microservices using modern frameworks and cloud-native technologies.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows to support reliable and repeatable deployments.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience delivering multi-tier, highly scalable, distributed web applications.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and data structures.
  • Strong experience with test-driven development and test automation.
  • Extensive experience developing microservices.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-driven, and make practical trade-offs based on business needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience developing finance applications is a plus.
  • Working experience with Terraform is a plus.
  • Experience creating workflows for Apache Airflow is a plus.

In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV. We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.

How to prepare for a job interview at Roku

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Roku uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
