About the team: At Roku, the UI team builds the foundational frameworks, tooling, and high-performance UI components that power experiences across millions of devices. We own the middleware and UI layers that enable smooth navigation, responsive interactions, rich animations, and consistent developer workflows across the platform. Our work spans graphics rendering, layout and animation systems, performance optimization, and developer APIs that make it easy to create reliable, visually compelling applications at scale. About the role: As a Senior Software Engineer on the UI team, you’ll design, implement, and optimize systems that underpin Roku’s user experience and developer platform. You’ll work on performance-critical code paths for graphics rendering, animation, layout, and UI frameworks, ensuring buttery-smooth visuals and instant responsiveness across a wide range of devices. You’ll help shape core architecture, collaborate across the stack with hardware, firmware, and application teams, and see your work directly impact tens of millions of users. This role is ideal for engineers who love deep technical problem-solving, care about performance down to the last millisecond, and want to build the invisible foundations that make great user experiences possible.
What you’ll be doing:
- Build scalable UI features optimized for millions of users
- Lead technical investigations and architect solutions across middleware, UI frameworks, and rendering pipelines
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities and leverage generative AI tools to accelerate development and improve developer productivity
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver global platform features with measurable performance and reliability gains
- Develop engineering tooling, frameworks, and automated workflows that raise developer efficiency and code quality
- Mentor junior developers through design reviews, pair programming, and clear technical documentation
- Stay current with platform, graphics, and AI trends; proactively identify opportunities to improve performance and developer experience
We’re excited if you have:
- Minimum of 5+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on UI frameworks or application development
- Advanced BrightScript (or JavaScript-like) skills and proficiency in Python
- Experience using Typescript is a plus!
- Knowledge and hands-on experience using C++
- Strong root cause analysis skills and clear, effective technical communication
- Knowledge of AI applications and hands-on experience with generative AI tools and workflows
- A proactive mindset with passion for continuous learning, fast iteration, and data-driven optimization
