Roku is changing how the world watches TV. Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.
This team spends most of its time building and improving the UI framework and components that power Roku user experiences. Our roadmap helps us accelerate our growth and scale, putting surprising new features into the hands of tens of millions of Roku users worldwide. They are motivated from within, finding and taking on a feature or project simply because that problem needs to be solved and shipped. But that individual must work together with different engineering teams, UI design, product teams, and business leadership to make things happen, which means that engineers succeed here because they can maintain that independent spirit and motivation within a deeply collaborative environment.
The Senior Software Engineer will contribute extensively to the embedded UI framework development, working closely with system architects to develop new features and extend current capabilities to improve system stability and performance. This role involves:
- Building and maintaining tools to improve the quality and consistency of Roku OS logging data
- Creating Python-based automation to extract, analyze, and validate log usage across large codebases
- Developing offline pipelines for processing logs to support pre-merge validation and automated data contract generation
- Writing and reviewing C++ changes in embedded codebases to ensure accurate and reliable logging
- Collaborating with system architects to extend UI framework features and improve system stability and performance
- Using agentic coding to accelerate feature development and testing
- Developing tools that support the larger development community within Roku
What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
- ~3+ years of relevant software development experience
- Proficiency in modern C++ with the ability to debug and extend embedded or firmware codebases
- Strong Python experience for building developer tooling and data-processing workflows
- Experience building JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks or working on JS virtual machines and runtimes
- Experience improving CI pipelines, including validation and quality gates
- Familiarity with logging, telemetry concepts, and data quality improvements
