Teamwork makes the stream work. Roku is changing how the world watches TV. Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we have set our sights on powering every television in the world. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers. From your first day at Roku, you will make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We are a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.
Are you eager to dive into the world of observability and contribute to building the next generation of Roku's AI-enhanced observability platform? Are you excited to learn about or expand your knowledge of the CNCF open-source ecosystem, including tools for metrics, logs, and tracing, while exploring how AI and Large Language Models can revolutionise observability workflows? Do you enjoy problem-solving, working collaboratively with other teams, and exploring innovative ways to improve their observability experience through intelligent automation? In this role, you will have the opportunity to grow your skills while helping manage large-scale operations involving high-volume data and requests across multiple regions and clusters, all while pioneering AI driven observability solutions. If you are enthusiastic about learning at the intersection of observability and AI, and ready to make an impact, we would love to hear from you!
We offer a paid 12-week internship, starting in Summer 2026.
The observability team is an integral part of Roku's central Infrastructure Engineering team, which oversees the service mesh hosting architecture and observability platform that lives on that platform. Together, we are tasked with developing and scaling both the Platform (Kubernetes, Istio, Envoy, operators, etc.) and the Observability stack (OSS/CNCF-supported observability projects). Our goal is to facilitate Roku's shift towards a unified, cloud-agnostic infrastructure where all teams benefit from a common framework with out of the box features. Within the observability team, we are dedicated to creating a world-class observability platform. We customise and optimise OSS projects to meet our needs and actively contribute to upstream projects, promoting positive changes and engaging with the broader ecosystem.
In this role, you will take on exciting projects at the cutting edge of AI and observability. Your primary focus will be exploring and then making proof of concepts for AI/LLM capabilities within our observability stack. To give some potential examples:
- Discovering and evaluating MCP servers that can be globally hosted to improve the usability and intelligence of our observability platform
- Developing AI-driven anomaly detection systems to proactively identify issues and patterns in our telemetry data
- Creating intelligent automation for common observability workflows using LLMs
- Building proof-of-concepts for AI-assisted troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Exploring any other options that benefit our platform
Alongside these AI-focused initiatives, you will work on smaller tasks to gain hands-on experience with our observability stack, collaborating with a passionate team to solve real-world challenges. Your contributions will directly enhance how Roku monitors, analyses, and optimises its systems through the power of AI, giving you a chance to learn, innovate, and make an impact at the forefront of observability technology.
We’re excited if you have:
- Currently enrolled in a degree programme in Computer Science/Engineering or related field and due to graduate in Dec 2026 or later.
- A strong curiosity and eagerness to learn about observability, cloud platforms, and large-scale systems.
- Some prior experience with AI and LLMs in general.
- Some familiarity with concepts around Kubernetes or container orchestration, and an interest in learning how to deploy and manage services in these environments.
- An understanding of, or experience with, basic DevOps or CI/CD workflows, and a desire to explore how these can improve reliability and scalability.
- A knack for problem-solving and a willingness to experiment with new tools and technologies.
- A passion for collaborating with others and contributing to team goals.
- Excitement about creating something impactful and being part of a project that helps improve the way we monitor and optimise systems.
Even if you don’t have direct experience with everything listed, we’re looking for someone with the drive to dive in, ask questions, and grow their skills along the way!

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humour. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We’re independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you will be part of a company that’s changing how the world watches TV. We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn’t real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
