Role Summary

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic and market-leading US Casualty team. This is more than a standard role; it’s an opportunity to be a critical member of a collaborative team that empowers you to challenge convention and drive new initiatives. We need a professional who thrives on combining strong technical skills with commercial initiative and a genuine passion for critical thinking. You will hold significant underwriting responsibility within our complex book, playing an instrumental role in its profitable growth by challenging assumptions and influencing our strategy with fresh ideas. Your established broker network and analytical mindset will be key to executing our goals and unlocking new opportunities in the US market

Role Accountabilities

  • Underwriting Excellence: Underwrite and price complex US Casualty risks across a number of classes that include construction, transportation, manufacturing, and auto. You\’ll take ownership of the underwriting process from submission to binding, ensuring compliance with our guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Business Development: Actively manage and cultivate a broad network of US brokers. You will be expected to leverage your established reputation and relationships to generate, develop, and secure new business opportunities that align with our strategic goals.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert on policy wordings, pricing methodologies, and emerging market trends. You\’ll critically analyse and interpret coverage, providing insightful solutions for our clients and brokers.
  • Portfolio Analysis: Work closely with our data science and actuarial teams to analyse portfolio performance. You will use data, AI, and other analytical tools to identify trends, develop new insights, and refine our underwriting strategy to optimise profitability.
  • Innovation & Strategy: Drive new ideas and challenge the status quo by questioning assumptions, thinking critically and independently, and contributing to the development of new products and underwriting tools that give us a competitive edge.

Role Requirements

  • A strong academic background, preferably as a graduate with a degree in an analytical, business, finance, or related discipline.
  • A proven track record as an underwriter or broker in the US or International Casualty market
  • Deep technical knowledge of US Casualty wordings, liability classes, and the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial and pricing concepts, including loss development, rate adequacy, and exposure analysis.
  • A robust and active network of US wholesale and retail brokers
  • An acumen for structured risk solutions and emerging business lines is highly desirable.
  • This role requires regular travel to the US to meet with brokers and clients.

  • Communication & Collaboration: The ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and build rapport with internal and external stakeholders. You have a \”roll up your sleeves\” mentality and are passionate about collaborating with a high-performing team.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: You are intellectually curious, constantly questioning your own assumptions to deepen your understanding and find better ways of working.
  • IT Proficiency: Strong proficiency with IT systems, particularly Excel, is required. Experience with data analysis tools is highly desirable.
