The Junior Project Manager role is an important project delivery support role, reporting to a Portfolio Manager within the Global Services Delivery Unit (DU).

Primary Job Purpose

As a Junior Project Manager you will be responsible for support to Project Managers, Portfolio Managers and project teams to establish, plan, manage, deliver and control projects in line with the project management grading framework and agreed governance. The role requires strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to make sound decisions within agreed boundaries and escalate issues appropriately. You will achieve success by applying agreed project management methods, tools and controls, while taking an active role in your professional and personal development.

Enabling the business to:

  • Deliver contracts to agreed schedule, cost and quality targets
  • Build effective relationships with customers, subcontractors, partners and internal stakeholders
  • Support mobilisation and structured delivery of bids and contracts
  • Identify, record and support the management of risks and issues associated with bidding and delivery
  • Provide accurate reporting and forecasting against agreed measures and milestones
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of delivery capability

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of project plans, schedules, milestones and resource forecasts for assigned work areas.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and work packages, managing own workload effectively and escalating where required.
  • Apply agreed project management processes, governance and tools to support successful project delivery.
  • Monitor progress against milestones and maintain accurate records of risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and actions.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including status reports, meeting notes, action logs, decision records and document repositories.
  • Support project meetings, reviews and governance activities, including agendas, minutes and follow-up actions.
  • Assist in monitoring project expenditure, purchase activity and supplier or subcontractor coordination where required.
  • Support quality assurance and compliance with Roke’s QMS by maintaining complete, current and accessible project artefacts.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with project team members and stakeholders, helping to coordinate activities and remove blockers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities and the consistent use of project management best practice.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to A level, BTEC Level 3, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent practical experience.

Desirable

  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), PRINCE2 Foundation, AgilePM Foundation, or similar entry-level project management certification.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in project management, business, engineering, science, technology or a related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Working knowledge of core project management principles, including planning, scheduling, reporting, risk and issue management, and project governance.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage own workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, internal stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Experience in a coordination, administration, delivery support, or project-related role, ideally within a structured or deadline-driven environment.
  • Competent in Microsoft 365 tools and able to learn and use project tracking, collaboration, and document management tools effectively.
