Roke is seeking a Junior PCB CAD Engineer to join an engineering team working on designing and developing PCBs to be part of cutting-edge solutions that in many cases will find their way into applications in both the Defence and National Security domains.
You will be responsible for PCB design. This will include supporting electronic engineers with Schematic Capture, creating library parts where required, doing detailed layout work, including routing of RF and high-speed digital signals on multi-layer PCBs. Roke uses Altium PCB CAD software.
As a junior role, training opportunities will be provided, as well as guidance from a senior PCB CAD engineer. The role requires an individual who can work independently and be able to request support as required, who can work closely with an agile software team, applying their technical knowledge and domain experience, whilst communicating effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Junior PCB CAD Engineer your responsibilities will include:
- Schematic Capture of electronic designs, liaising and support an Electronic Design engineer
- Maintaining the component library, including definition, design component and footprint
- Detailed CAD layout of the PCB, major component positioning, to detailed track routing, taking particular care with RF tracks to maintain required impedance, high-speed digital tracks to ensure signal integrity, as well as power supply connectivity to ensure required resistance to avoid overheating.
- Support the Electronic Design Engineer in selection of PCB material (substrates, copper thickness)
- Preparation of manufacturing data
- Grow detailed awareness of IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, up to class 3, IPC-2221 standards and guidelines
- Formal qualification in an Engineering discipline
- Knowledge of electronic components
- Some experience of Altium PCB CAD tool
- Experience of independent working
- Willingness to undertake training, and develop skills to work towards
