ROCS is a nurse-led, 365-day community service supporting safe discharge following orthopaedic surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH). The service delivers post-operative care, complex wound management, intravenous antibiotic therapy under the Bone Infection Service, and physiotherapy support within patients’ homes.

The role of senior sister:

  • To lead, manage and develop the ROCS Team, ensuring that a high quality seamless interface is provided to all patients accepted onto the scheme.
  • The post holder will be forward thinking and dynamic in approach to the expansion and development of the service.
  • To utilise allocated budgets and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • This will involve day to day management of manpower and resources related to the team, liaison with appropriate staff, external agencies and stakeholders.
  • You will be expected to work within the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and the patient’s home as part of the ROCS team.
  • The post holder will be a member of the relevant service group/groups and represent nursing issues accordingly.

Main duties of the job:

  • Exercise leadership of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Act as an appropriate and effective role model at all times.
  • Develop the service providing a seamless interface between hospital and community care for all patients within the Trust as appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate events and activities relating to the scheme.
  • Be a clinical expert; act as a change agent and innovator for orthopaedic discharge and community IV services.
  • Lead on evaluating and updating the ROCS service practices ensuring that they are based on current policies, are patient centred, of a high quality and evidence based.

Qualifications and training:

  • NMC registered
  • Holds a driving license
  • Willingness to undertake prescribing course
  • Wound care knowledge
  • Significant post registration band 6 experience in an acute surgical setting or the community
  • Evidence of ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience in managing patients with bone infection.
  • Working in the community

Knowledge and skills:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of duties required for the post.
  • Clinical skills competence.
  • Able to communicate sensitive and complex information accurately and effectively with patients and colleagues, verbally and in writing where there may be barriers to understanding.
  • Ability to motivate others and be self-motivating.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
