As a Systems Engineer for Rohde & Schwarz UK on the Type 26 Global Combat Ship project, you will be at the forefront of production on the Royal Navy’s most advanced warship to date. As part of a skilled, multi-national engineering team, you will integrate and commission the complete communications system on site and onboard the ships at Scotstoun Dockyard. You will contribute to the success of the team as part of Rohde & Schwarz UK’s continued growth. Through formal and on‑the‑job training, you will gain knowledge and experience to create your own progression path within the company.
Your tasks include:
- Termination/modification of rack internal cabling and equipment installation
- Inspection of shipyard installed communications equipment against defence and industry standards
- Set to Work (STW) of various sub-systems incorporated by the comms installation
- Execution of customer facing Harbour Acceptance Trials (HATs)
- Occasional support of test activities at Supplier Integration Facility (SIF) located in Fleet, Hampshire
- Occasional support of test activities at Land Based Integration Facility (LBIF) located in Portsmouth, Hampshire
- Occasional support of integration/test activities at Rohde & Schwarz Plant located in Teisnach, Germany
Your Qualifications:
Essential:- Recognised qualification in an engineering discipline (e.g. HND/HNC/SVQ Level 3)
- Experience of working as part of an engineering team
- Experience of the installation and STW of complex systems
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and escalate if required
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation
- Ability to work under own initiative or as part of a larger team
- Active SC clearance, or the ability and willingness to go through vetting process to obtain SC clearance
- Experience of working in shipyard environments
- Knowledge of military communication systems and standards
- Experience/knowledge of RF comms
- Experience of cable termination and testing
- Knowledge of Juniper/Cisco network devices
- Experience/knowledge of Fibre Optics
- Experience writing technical documentation
- Knowledge of serial communication technologies and protocols
