An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior / Lead Estimator to join a well-established, rapidly growing specialist contractor within the passive fire protection industry. The company has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality fire protection solutions across the UK, working on a variety of projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, and education sectors. With a dedicated team of over 100 employees, they continue to expand their national presence, developing regional offices to improve service delivery.

The Role:

As the Senior / Lead Estimator, you will be responsible for managing and developing the estimating team, currently consisting of five staff members, with two more joining soon. You will also oversee and mentor trainees, ensuring the team operates efficiently and continues to grow. The role requires someone with strong management experience and an extensive background in passive fire protection estimating.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate estimates and tenders for passive fire protection projects.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents to produce detailed cost estimates.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
  • Ensure estimates comply with industry regulations and company standards.
  • Work closely with project managers and commercial teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies within the estimating process.
  • Provide strategic input into business growth and tendering strategies.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior estimating role, ideally within passive fire protection.
  • Strong management experience, with the ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Extensive knowledge of passive fire protection systems (fire-stopping, fire doors, intumescent coatings, etc.).
  • Familiarity with tendering for projects in commercial, residential, healthcare, and education sectors.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy in estimating.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to business development and team growth.
