You understand refurbishment and fit out projects properly, not just from a pricing perspective but from a delivery point of view as well. You can spot risk early, ask the right questions and build estimates that stand up commercially and operationally. This role will suit someone who wants more involvement in the pre-construction process and enjoys working closely with senior leadership on strategy, pricing and securing new work. You’ll probably be at the stage where you want your experience valued, your opinion listened to and a clear path within a growing business.

Your experience

You’ll already have solid experience working as a Senior Estimator within construction, refurbishment or fit out. Experience across industrial, commercial or educational projects would be highly beneficial, especially within refurbishment environments where programmes, sequencing and live site challenges need careful consideration. You’ll be confident pricing from drawings and specifications, analysing subcontractor quotations and preparing commercially competitive tenders. How to prepare for a job interview at Rogers McHugh Recruitment

Know Your Numbers

As a Senior Estimator, you need to be on top of your game with pricing. Brush up on your knowledge of construction methods, JCT contracts, and risk management. Be ready to discuss how you've successfully built estimates in the past and how you approach pricing from drawings and specifications.

Showcase Your Experience

Make sure to highlight your solid experience in refurbishment and fit-out projects. Prepare specific examples of how you've tackled live site challenges and how your estimates have stood up commercially. This will demonstrate your understanding of the delivery side of projects, not just the pricing.

Ask Insightful Questions

During the interview, don’t hesitate to ask questions that show your interest in the pre-construction process. Inquire about the company's approach to risk management or how they involve estimators in strategic decisions. This shows you're keen to be part of the bigger picture and value collaboration with senior leadership.

Familiarise Yourself with Tools

Since you'll be using estimating systems like COINS, make sure you're comfortable discussing your experience with Excel and any other relevant software. If you’ve used similar tools, mention them and explain how they’ve helped you in your estimating work. This will show that you're tech-savvy and ready to hit the ground running.
