About the business
Our client is an established construction business with a strong reputation across the region, delivering projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Business Development & Social Value Manager to support the Managing Director and wider team across business development, tendering, frameworks and the delivery of social value commitments. This is a varied role with responsibility across business development, client engagement, tender submissions and social value, offering the opportunity to make a real impact on the continued growth of the business.
Your experience
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within the construction industry, with a background in business development, bid management, social value or a similar role. You will need to be confident building relationships with clients, consultants and framework providers, producing high-quality written tender responses and coordinating information across internal and operational teams. Strong written communication skills are important, particularly when producing tender responses, reports and other client-facing documentation. You will also need to be organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing multiple deadlines across different areas of the business. Experience with Social Value Plans, Employment Skills Plans, framework submissions, apprenticeships or community engagement would be beneficial.
Duties
- Social Value
- Develop and manage the company's Social Value strategy.
- Produce Employment Skills Plans where required.
- Coordinate Social Value commitments across frameworks and projects.
- Attend client and framework Social Value meetings.
- Prepare Social Value Planning Statements where required.
- Coordinate apprenticeship, employment and training commitments.
- Build relationships with schools, colleges, charities and community organisations.
- Organise work experience placements and community engagement activities.
- Monitor Social Value KPIs and prepare reports for clients and internal management.
- Ensure contractual Social Value commitments are achieved.
- Promote Social Value successes through marketing and communications.
- Business Development
- Support the Managing Director with the company's business development strategy.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across agreed market sectors.
- Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients, consultants and framework providers.
- Develop client engagement plans to support repeat business.
- Attend networking events, client functions and supplier engagement events.
- Monitor planning and procurement portals for new project opportunities.
- Maintain and regularly update the CRM database.
- Arrange client meetings and introductions.
- Monitor market activity and competitor movements to identify future opportunities.
- Tenders & Frameworks
- Maintain an up-to-date tender opportunity register.
- Monitor procurement portals for new opportunities.
- Support PQQs, framework applications and tender submissions.
- Produce high-quality written responses for tender submissions.
- Coordinate information from operational teams to support submissions.
- Maintain a library of company case studies, project photographs and staff CVs.
- Attend internal pre-construction meetings.
- Attend framework briefings and procurement events.
- Record tender outcomes and feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Live Projects
- Attend project and client meetings where required.
- Prepare regular Social Value reports for project teams and clients.
- Work closely with Site Managers to ensure Social Value commitments are delivered.
- Monitor Employment Skills Plans and apprenticeship commitments throughout project delivery.
- Maintain accurate KPI trackers and evidence records.
- Support project teams with client reporting requirements.
- Marketing & Communications
- Maintain and update the company website.
- Support LinkedIn and other company social media platforms.
- Contribute to company brochures and promotional material.
- Assist with project case studies and award submissions.
- Promote completed projects and company achievements.
- Coordinate internal communications relating to Social Value activities.
- Assist in maintaining a consistent company brand.
- Apprenticeships & Early Careers
- Work alongside the HSE Director to coordinate apprenticeship programmes.
- Liaise with colleges and training providers.
- Organise work experience placements.
- Coordinate apprentice reviews and progress monitoring.
- Promote careers within construction through schools and community engagement.
- General Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
- Maintain accurate records, KPI trackers and reporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Contribute ideas to improve company performance, culture and employee engagement.
- Assist with company events and promotional activities.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the position.
