RCE Ltd, founded in 2012, has grown rapidly to become a multi-disciplined contractor specializing in civil engineering, reinstatement, and utilities. As our business continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Depot Manager to oversee the effective day-to-day management of our busy yard and workshop operations based in Coventry. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring plant, vehicles, materials, and equipment are compliant, serviced, maintained, and accessible at all times — enabling minimal downtime for our operational teams.
The Role
- Overseeing the daily operations of a busy yard, plant workshop, and vehicle workshop
- Managing and leading a team of 2 Plant Fitters
- Managing a large and diverse fleet of company vehicles including cars, vans, and HGVs, ensuring they are maintained to the highest standards
- Overseeing both internal fleet maintenance and selected external works carried out within the vehicle workshop
- Driving quality control across all workshop activities — ensuring workmanship is consistently high and compliant
- Ensuring efficiency within the workshop to maximise fleet availability and minimise downtime
- Ensuring plant, vehicles, and equipment are serviced, maintained, and compliant
- Maintaining accurate service schedules, inspection records, and maintenance documentation
- Driving effective stock control and yard organisation
- Overseeing asset movements to and from the depot, ensuring asset management systems accurately reflect availability
- Ensuring materials, plant, and equipment are readily available to site teams
- Supporting the Transport Coordinator to maintain Operator’s Licence compliance
- Conducting regular vehicle gate checks and compliance checks
- Promoting and maintaining high Health & Safety standards across the depot
Knowledge & Experience
- Previous experience managing a depot, workshop, or yard environment (utilities, plant hire, civil engineering, or similar industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of plant and vehicle maintenance compliance
- Understanding of Operator’s Licence requirements and transport compliance
- Demonstrates strong leadership and people management skills
- Highly organised with excellent record-keeping ability
- Ability to prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
- IT competent and comfortable managing service schedules and compliance records
