Schedule: PRN - as needed coverage when clinic is open (M-F) No set hours or consistent days.

The therapist leads the collaboration among an interdisciplinary team to develop, coordinate, and facilitate all direct social services interventions to patients assigned to their caseload and their support systems. The therapist utilizes empirically supported therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), or family therapy, to aid in the stabilization and recovery of individuals with mental and behavioral health concerns. The therapist creates a safe and supportive environment where patients gain insight into the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and work towards achieving their goals. The therapist may be responsible for other duties as directed by their manager/clinical operations supervisor to support direct patient care as well as system initiatives. The therapist will work in an acute care setting that includes inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and/or intensive outpatient services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions: Providing one-on-one therapy, group therapy, and family therapy sessions to address patients' specific needs and goals.
  • Assess patients' needs: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patients' mental health concerns, strengths, and challenges.
  • Develop treatment plans: Create individualized treatment plans based on patients' needs and goals; provide guidance in the implementation of clinical interventions, including but not limited to facilitating treatment team meetings.
  • Provide counseling and support: Incorporate evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help patients manage their symptoms and improve their overall well-being within sessions and in-the-moment as needed in the milieu.
  • Educate patients: Teach patients about their mental health and/or substance use conditions, self-care strategies, and treatment options to support patients in reviewing the costs and benefits of treatment engagement and aftercare plans.
  • Document patient progress: Maintain detailed records of therapy sessions, including patient progress, goals, and interventions. Complete all documentation within required time.
  • Collaborate with other professionals (both internally and externally): Work with other members of the treatment team, such as psychiatrists, social workers, and case managers, to coordinate care and ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines: Follow ethical codes of conduct and maintain confidentiality in all interactions with patients.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development: Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in mental health.
  • Report and document suspected cases of abuse: Follow legal and systemic policies regarding physical, sexual abuse, and neglect.
  • Conduct self professionally: Demonstrate strong interdisciplinary collaboration, communicate assertively, and accept feedback for growth.
  • Support staffing and scheduling changes: Assist when program and patient care needs change.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives and projects: Support system-wide improvements.
  • Ensure compliance: Understand and adhere to Joint Commission, state, and other regulatory standards.
  • Prioritize safety: Ensure patient and facility safety at all times.
  • Perform other duties: Maintain knowledge of departmental protocols, pursue continuing education, and participate in committees as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Family Therapy from an accredited institution, with healthcare and psychiatric experience preferred.
  • At minimum, an in-training license such as LPC-IT, MFT-TL, APSW, or equivalent in the practicing state.
  • Substance use credentialing (SAC-IT, SAC, or CSAC) required if applicable in Wisconsin, including a relevant specialty authorization.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions suitable for all ages and understanding of human development and behavior.

Required on-the-job Training:

  • Compliance with RCC and CBRF standards (required for Residential Inpatient programs, preferred for all levels).
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire; bi-annual re-certification required.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training within 60 days; annual re-certification required.
  • Attend all mandatory and relevant in-services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • For Residential programs: hold a current driver's license in good standing (preferred for all levels).
