Due to this ongoing growth of the business, we now require an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day warehouse and logistics operations.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations & Logistics, this is a varied role which requires experience in operations, logistics, health & safety and multi‑site management.

You will work closely with Warehouse department Supervisors, Maintenance Manager and H&S team to ensure the smooth and effective running of the operation across 3 sites.

You will have direct management of 10 department leaders within Despatch, Production, IMT, Replenishment and Goods Inward with a wider team of circa 75+ operative staff.

It is essential that strong leadership skills are used to pull together and lead all departments within the Warehouse to meet the operational demands of the business.

You will need previous experience within a similar role with a good understanding of the day‑to‑day operations and logistics within a busy distribution warehouse.

You will require excellent communication and leadership skills with well‑developed IT skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership and team management – along with direct line manager duties you will take ownership of supporting and leading departments across the sites.

You will oversee and implement department objectives, performance management, team development, recruitment, training etc.

  • Oversee all aspects of logistics including UK Parcel freight, haulage and exporting. Liaising with key external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure customer orders are completed on time and to budget and that KPI’s and quality standards and targets are met.
  • Work with other department managers to implement the company's policies, meet agreed service levels and company goals.
  • Set KPI’s for all Warehouse departments and ensure they are being met and exceed.
  • Ensure that health and safety guidelines are always adhered to across all sites.
  • Oversee all day‑to‑day operations across all three sites.
  • Manage and attend H&S meetings with Training and Maintenance Manager. Review / carry out actions raised whilst ensuring compliance is always met.
  • Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, ensure that all sites are meeting required standards.
  • General housekeeping duties along with overseeing all operational equipment.
  • Continually review processes to ensure improvements are made when / where required.
  • Managing FLT fleets across all sites and experience to specify future equipment requirements.
  • Managing HGV’s, trailers and drivers ensuring their road worthiness in line with DVLA policies.
  • Monthly reporting to Director of Operation & Logistics.

  • Proven logistics & operations background.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Clear understanding of delivering performance to our major customers
  • Ability to benchmark, identify pinch‑points and improve processes.
  • Motivated to improve operations and challenge poor practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with your team.
  • Effective leadership and delegation skills.
  • Ability to challenge/ question when required.
  • IT literate which ability to quickly adapt to new systems.
  • Watchful eye with a good attention to detail to ensure high levels of quality.
  • The ability to work and stay calm under pressure.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to motivate others and link departments.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 business.
  • 40 hours per week - Monday – Thursday 08:00-17:00 and Friday 08:00-15:45
  • 23 days holiday per year + bank holidays. Extra day each 2 years to a maximum of 25 days
