Role Description

The Flooring Installer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Edinburgh. The Flooring Installer will prepare work areas, remove existing flooring, and install new materials such as hardwood, engineered timber and other flooring types according to project specifications. Day-to-day tasks include measuring and cutting materials, laying and securing flooring, ensuring proper alignment and finishes, and performing clean-up and minor repairs as needed. The role involves working closely with other team members, following safety procedures, handling tools and equipment, and maintaining clear communication with supervisors and clients about project progress. The Flooring Installer is expected to deliver consistent, high-quality workmanship while meeting deadlines and project standards.

Duties

  • Prepare subfloors to a sound, level base including levelling compounds, screeds and plywood overlay and carry out moisture and evenness testing before laying.
  • Install solid and engineered wood flooring using the correct method for each product, including glue-down, secret-nail and floating installations.
  • Set out and lay parquet patterns such as herringbone, chevron and basket weave, ensuring accurate alignment and clean, precise cuts.
  • Measure, scribe and cut timber to fit neatly around fixtures, doorways and obstacles, keeping waste to a minimum.
  • Fit associated trims and finishings beading, scotia, skirtings, thresholds and stair nosing's.
  • Carry out general second-fix joinery to support the team (e.g. doors, skirtings, facings) on relevant projects.
  • Work cleanly and safely on site, following current health and safety standards and wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and other trades, representing the company well in customers' homes and on commercial sites.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep the work area tidy throughout each job.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a wood flooring fitter, with a strong portfolio and/or engineered timber installations, across residential and/or commercial properties.
  • Practical skills in Hardwood and Hardwood Flooring installation, including measuring, cutting, and finishing.
  • Confident in subfloor preparation, moisture testing and the main fixing methods (glue-down, secret-nail, floating).
  • Experience setting out and laying parquet herringbone.
  • Knowledge of basic construction practices, safe use of hand and power tools, and adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to read and follow plans or instructions, and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting materials, standing for extended periods, and working in various site conditions.
  • Effective communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
