The Space Rangers team are recruiting a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) Principal UI Engineer to join a London based Game Studio!
Location: UK Remote OR London, Bromley (on-site)
The Role
Space Rangers is partnering with a AAA game development studio to recruit a Principal UI Engineer who is the technical authority for user interface engineering across the studio. The Role will set the standard for how to architect and build performant, robust, data-driven interfaces at scale. They define the long-term technical vision for UI engineering, establishing the frameworks, patterns, and best practices that our teams build upon across multiple projects. Drawing on deep implementation experience, they take on our hardest technical challenges, evaluate emerging tools and technologies, and make the architectural decisions that keep our interfaces reusable and future-proof. They remain hands-on, prototyping solutions and setting the bar for engineering quality by example.
We trust our Principal UI Engineers with a high degree of autonomy and influence, and they put the long-term health of our technology and teams first. They partner with Lead UI Engineers and project leadership to align technical direction across teams, and they mentor engineers at every level to raise the capability of the whole discipline. They represent UI engineering at the studio level and act as a trusted technical voice with external partners, platform holders, and engine vendors. We believe that levelling up our skills is essential to the role, and offer regular training opportunities and mentorship to all our UI staff.
You Have:
- Extensive, proven UI engineering experience; you have shipped multiple commercial game projects and set the technical direction that others build upon.
- A track record of defining UI architecture and technical strategy at scale; you establish frameworks, patterns, and standards that hold up across teams and projects.
- Expert knowledge of C++, with deep relevant professional experience.
- Deep practical UI implementation knowledge; you break complex designs into reusable, performant components and readily overcome technical limitations alongside UI Design teams.
- Sound engineering judgement; you make robust architectural decisions with incomplete information, balancing long-term technical health against delivery needs.
- A mentoring mindset and influential people skills; you elevate the engineers around you and can align teams behind a shared technical direction without relying on direct authority.
- Considerate communication and presentation skills; you’re able to present complex technical ideas clearly to audiences of all experience levels, both internally and to external partners.
- Comfortable operating with minimal supervision; you set your own direction and make intelligent decisions with the information at hand.
Bonus Points for:
- Deep experience with Unreal Engine and Unreal Motion Graphics (UMG).
- Experience with accommodating a variety of player accessibility needs.
- Multi-platform and console development experience.
- Contributions to engine or middleware, or engagement with the wider technical community through talks, articles, or open source.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER:
- Competitive Salary and Benefits Package: Your health and wellbeing is important to us, so we offer a variety of benefits including:
- Enhanced Private Pension Scheme
- Private Medical Insurance
