ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for an experienced Technical UI Artist to join our team. The right person will be open and flexible, able to work across wide-ranging UI art and workflow problem spaces with various styles and team sizes, and critically, will be deeply fluent in Unreal Engine 5.
As the primary bridge between design and implementation, both at the studio and with our client partners, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining solutions to complex visual and technical scenarios in UE5. This means thinking creatively, ensuring timely and efficient communication, and delivering polished, player-ready UI across AAA titles.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Art & Design Integration: Ensure that UX flows and UI visuals work in alignment with good design practices, client expectations, and UE5 rendering capabilities.
- UI Implementation in UE5: Translate gameplay and UX requirements into functional, performant in-engine UI systems using UE5's Unreal Motion Graphics (UMG) framework, ensuring visual consistency and player-friendliness.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Develop solutions for complex UI scenarios, leveraging deep knowledge of UE5 Material Blueprints, shaders, and UI optimisation techniques.
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work closely with designers, artists, engineers, and client partners to align creative vision with technical execution — unblocking obstacles and balancing artistic goals with production realities.
- Pipeline Development: Build and maintain efficient UI and asset workflows within UE5, ensuring tools, templates, and processes are optimised for quality and delivery speed.
- Iteration & Feedback: Participate actively in design reviews, incorporate feedback quickly, and proactively identify opportunities for polish and improvement.
WHAT WE VALUE:
- Design & Art Mastery: Deep understanding of visual principles, interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility best practices, combined with strong knowledge of UI asset creation pipelines and UE5 implementation workflows.
- Drive for Excellence: A commitment to meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every visual element achieves a flawless, pixel-perfect aesthetic.
- Player-Centric Mindset: Empathy for players' needs and behaviours, with a passion for delivering seamless, intuitive, and visually engaging experiences.
- Collaboration: Strong communication and facilitation skills, with a track record of building trust and working effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to translate complex systems into elegant, usable interfaces without compromising on aesthetics or performance.
- Operational Resilience: The ability to navigate complex or challenging project environments, streamlining communication and optimising impact to set projects up for success.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- 3+ years of experience as a UI Technical Artist, UI Technical Designer, or equivalent role in game development.
- Proven track record of shipping at least one title through to release; console certification experience (Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5) is a bonus.
- Strong proficiency with UE5 UMG — including widget Blueprints, animations, and complex layout systems.
- Deep expertise with shaders as applied to UI in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5 Material Blueprints, HLSL).
- Working knowledge of UI asset authoring tools, including Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Solid understanding of game engine concepts such as composition, inheritance, and asset optimisation as they apply to UI systems.
- Passion for continuous improvement and upskilling across both technical and creative domains.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER:
- Competitive Salary and Benefits Package: Your health and wellbeing is important to us, so we offer a variety of benefits including: Private Pension via Salary Sacrifice, Optional Private Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage, Annual Leave, plus Bank Holidays and Winter Break Office Closure, Annual Research Credit.
