Overview
Nomad has an exciting opportunity for an experienced System Administrator to join our Engineering division in the UK. The role involves deploying and maintaining complex backend infrastructure across various private and public cloud environments (VMware, OpenStack, Azure, AWS). The ideal candidate will have experience in administration, troubleshooting, and networking, with responsibilities including monitoring, analysis, diagnosis, and implementing solutions for complex IT systems. This position can be based at our Newcastle head office with a hybrid working setup or fully remote.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Expertise in Linux OS, server and storage infrastructure, virtualization, cloud services, and networking principles.
- Diagnosing faults and providing solutions across IT and communication systems, focusing on Linux, virtualization, security, and networking.
- Implementing and supporting complex solutions in diverse environments.
- Containerization and management (Docker).
- Configuration management.
- Designing and developing new systems to meet customer needs.
- Analyzing and applying security policies and best practices.
- Configuring IP networks.
- Providing 24/7 system monitoring using appropriate tools.
- Creating documentation for internal and external use where appropriate.
- Ensuring compliance with system audit requirements.
- Troubleshooting application and system issues.
- Implementing automation and logging systems.
- Managing backups and disaster recovery plans.
- Building test specifications and conducting testing to develop standard plans.
- Providing third-line support and escalation when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Essential: RHCE or equivalent experience.
- Desired: CCNA or equivalent Cisco experience.
Experience:
- Essential: Proven Linux System Administrator experience.
- Linux networking stack (ip route, ip rule, iptables/nftables, quagga/frr).
- Ansible, Git.
- Virtualization (VMware, OpenStack).
- On-premises datacenter infrastructure (bare metal).
- Networking fundamentals (VLANs, LACP, VRRP).
- Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).
- VPNs (Strongswan).
- MySQL.
- Desired: Docker, CI/CD pipelines, GitLab.
- Kubernetes, Puppet, Foreman, Zabbix, MQTT.
