We are looking for a full-time Launch Site Health and Safety Lead (f/m/d) to join our UK team. In this role you will focus on the practical implementation of RFA Health and Safety Policy on the ground at the Launch site. You will support the site technicians and engineers in the execution of their day-to-day work by producing relevant safety documentation, ensuring appropriate equipment and PPE is available, and where required organise and conduct training of staff on site. This role will require you to be based either through rotations or relocation at the launch site on the Isle of Unst in the Shetland Islands.

Your Tasks:

  • Lead in the iteration and implementation of RFA health and safety policy and procedures at the launch site.
  • Produce and maintain required safety documentation for day-to-day operations on site (RAMS, COSHH) relevant for a wide range of work: lifts, work at height, enclosed space work, hot works and work with electrical and pressure systems.
  • Ensure suitable emergency procedures are produced and maintained and that staff are aware and competent in their execution.
  • Arrange and, where suitable, carry out and keep a detailed record of site inductions and trainings.
  • Work with the procurement teams to ensure that suitable PPE and other safety-related equipment are in place and kept to a suitable standard.
  • Ensure plant and equipment is properly maintained.
  • Outside of core Health and Safety related responsibilities, support the build, maintenance and operation of the launch site.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading the implementation and management of health and safety processes on construction sites, test facilities, or engineering development environments, ideally during early-stage build or commissioning phases.
  • Hands-on experience as a technician, mechanic, or engineer within an industrial, construction, aerospace, or heavy engineering environment, with a strong practical understanding of site activities and hazards.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, including roles, duties, and practical application on complex or high-risk projects.
  • Practical understanding of UK health and safety legislation, including but not limited to: Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974; COSHH; PUWER and LOLER; PSSR.
  • Professional certifications: NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum); NEBOSH Construction Certificate (preferred); CSCS Gold Card (or equivalent) required.
  • Experience working in fast-paced development programmes where safety systems must adapt rapidly without compromising standards.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, high-pressure systems, hazardous gases, or aerospace/spaceport operations is desirable.
