Rockbourne is delighted to be working exclusively with one of the UK's leading purpose-built student accommodation and co-living platforms to appoint a Fund Manager
With ambitions to double the size of the fund over the next 12 to 24 months, the business needs a commercially astute, self-starting fund manager to take full ownership of the portfolio and lead its next phase of growth.
This is a genuinely rare opportunity to run one of the largest private living-sector funds in the UK, within a fully integrated, entrepreneurial platform with sales, marketing, operations and development all in-house.
The Why?
- Track Record
- Our client has built one of the strongest operating platforms in the UK living sector.
- The fund's primary investor has a strong track record of supporting recapitalisations of the operational real estate platforms it backs, and is fully aligned behind the growth plan.
- Team / Culture
- The business is young, informal, and genuinely entrepreneurial, but highly professional and detail-obsessed where it counts.
- It is a flat, meritocratic team; those who have thrived here bring personality, hunger, and a genuine willingness to work hand-in-glove with every part of the business rather than in a silo.
- Autonomy
- You will take full day-to-day ownership of the fund and be the primary relationship owner for its institutional investor.
- You will have genuine license to bring creative capital solutions to the table rather than simply executing instructions.
- Progression
- For the right person, there is scope over time to input into wider group strategy.
What do you need to bring to the table?
- 12+ years' experience in real estate investment, asset management, or fund management, with a meaningful proportion of that in operational real estate; PBSA, BTR, co-living, or other living sectors strongly preferred.
- A track record either as an existing fund manager, or as a senior investment director or asset manager with genuine ownership experience, looking to make the step up into full fund management responsibility.
- Advanced Excel modelling capability.
- A demonstrable track record managing institutional LP relationships and presenting to senior investment committees with genuine authority.
- Comfortable being put in front of senior institutional stakeholders and representing a brand credibly and authentically to the outside world.
- A genuine self-starter with a realistic, current understanding of the capital markets; comfortable in your own skin from day one.
- A collaborative team player who genuinely wants to work hand-in-glove with sales, marketing, operations, and development, rather than running your own agenda.
- Degree-educated in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline; RICS, FCA, or CFA advantageous.
The Role
- Take full day-to-day ownership of the fund: driving sales strategy, occupancy, and net income performance across the existing portfolio.
- Identify and execute value-add opportunities, taking an ongoing, critical view on whether to hold, churn, or sell individual assets.
- Act as the day-to-day relationship owner for the fund's primary institutional investor: reporting, relationship management, and being the fund's institutional face to the investor.
- Work with the development team to understand what assets are being warehoused in the pipeline, and how and when they can be brought into the fund to support growth.
- Bring pipeline and market awareness to the table: understanding what's available in the market, and what new capital should be invested in and why.
- Originate creative capital structuring solutions to bridge timing gaps ahead of a full recapitalisation, and ultimately lead that recapitalisation process.
Other Details
- Salary: Depending on experience and fit
- Bonus: Discretionary
