Your New Role... CNN is looking for a Global Weekend Senior Multiplatform Editor to join its EMEA headquarters in London and take a leading role in helping to shape the world’s biggest and most important stories. This role is for a seasoned, ambitious senior editor who will oversee CNN’s multiplatform news coverage on weekends, leading a team of digital-first journalists across the world on major globe-spanning stories. The ideal candidate brings outstanding news judgment and a deep understanding of both US national and international affairs, acting as a critical bridge to ensure major editorial priorities are seamlessly aligned across desks and timezones.

This role requires a dynamic editor who is comfortable orchestrating coverage across digital text, video, TV and visual-led journalism, ensuring our highest-impact content is expertly optimized for every format and screen. They will thrive at different speeds – equally at ease commanding a fast-moving breaking news story as they are at shaping a deep-dive enterprise feature.

Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Leading the news agenda during EMEA hours on weekends and overseeing editorial in all formats and on all platforms, with a focus on international and US national news, as the key editorial link between CNN’s APAC and US hubs.
  • Setting up the morning for CNN’s US audience, advancing overnight stories and ensuring that a sophisticated mix of high-impact content greets US readers and subscribers as they wake up.
  • Directing the commissioning and execution of cross-platform content; editing and writing text-based editorial including breaking news, analysis and enterprise journalism; guiding the production and framing of video news in a variety of formats, including mobile-first and broadcast.
  • Acting as the decisive editorial authority on duty during breaking news, rapidly mobilizing cross-format resources across global desks during major news events.
  • Overseeing the commissioning of distinctive news features, analysis and enterprise stories that can anchor our weekend offering, in collaboration with teams across the region and the globe.
  • Project managing network-priority events in close coordination with bureaus, correspondents, planning teams and other global stakeholders.
  • Coordinating with digital programming colleagues on high-quality headlines, push alerts and other promotional language to ensure our breaking news and enterprise coverage achieves maximum visibility.
  • Using real-time and long-term analytics to inform commissioning decisions, improve content delivery and maximize visibility.
  • Acting as the formal line manager for multiple EMEA-based reporters, providing direction, feedback and growth opportunities – while helping to lead the wider newsroom team, fostering a culture of experimentation and multiplatform skills.
  • Working every weekend and occasional evenings (shift pattern is Wednesday through Sunday).

Skills and Experience

  • Willingness to work weekends as part of standard weekly pattern.
  • Proven news editing experience within leading digital-first news organizations, with demonstrated success steering coverage in high-pressure, breaking news environments.
  • Deep knowledge of both US politics/current affairs and international geopolitical dynamics.
  • Multiplatform fluency: Extensive expertise editing and writing digital text stories, paired with solid operational experience working across video, TV, and visual-led formats.
  • Sharp news judgment with a natural ability to think in headlines and frame complex global stories, especially for a waking US morning audience.
  • A strong desire to experiment with storytelling formats and think creatively about how to engage our multiplatform audience.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills, with a history of successfully executing complex all-platform coverage plans.
  • Impeccable written and spoken English.

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
