To ensure the identification and effective implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of all Technical and Quality systems relevant to the asbestos management department, covering surveying, training delivery and air monitoring activities. Driving higher standards, enhancing compliance and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. To set all standards across H&S, Quality & technical ensuring that all is being delivered to that standard. Take appropriate action to resolve root causes of issues and support continual improvement in all areas. Demonstrate effective H&S & quality control practices. Ensure all practices and procedures comply fully with ISO/IEC 17020 (for inspection activities), ISO/IEC 17025 (testing and air monitoring), UKAS RG8 & RG4, ILAC P15 & G19, and HSG264 & HSG248 guidance. These standards must be embedded in the operational systems and daily routines.
Role & Responsibilities
- Oversee the day‑to‑day execution of all elements within the Quality and Technical Manual, ensuring document control, distribution, version management and accessibility.
- Provide continuous guidance to staff on the application of quality systems and policies, ensuring adherence across the department.
- Investigate technical or quality issues, client complaints or non‑conformances; conduct root‑cause analysis and document corrective or preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain an annual internal audit schedule; conduct or oversee audits and inspections.
- Prepare improvement plans based on audit results and drive implementation and review.
- Support and mentor asbestos surveyors/analysts in quality performance, technical knowledge and procedural compliance.
- Maintain internal authorisation records and the staff training matrix; ensure certification is current.
- Manage Monday Boards – ensure all boards are kept up to date and filled correctly.
- Maintain oversight of all audits required by UKAS and internal procedures.
- Liaise with UKAS and other accreditation or regulatory bodies; prepare for UKAS visits and oversee post‑visit actions.
- Ensure all air monitoring activities meet ISO/IEC 17025 and UKAS standards; maintain oversight of all air monitoring methods.
- Collaborate with technical consultants and analysts to apply best practices in monitoring.
- Deliver technical training courses and awareness sessions to internal team and clients in line with HSE and UKATA standards.
- Conduct face‑fitting testing for RPE and maintain training records.
- Develop training course content and delivery methodology.
- Mentor and coach team members seeking tutor roles; audit training delivery and tutor competency assessments.
- Line manage all asbestos management trainees until signed off as fully competent.
- Hold structured weekly meetings to review trainee development and performance.
- Ensure trainees are rotated through varied projects.
- Document trainee progress, identify gaps and develop action plans.
- Handover line management responsibilities once trainee is competent.
- Promote the services of the business and identify opportunities for commercial development or client engagement.
- Attend and chair monthly quality meetings; record minutes and ensure completion of follow‑up actions.
- Ensure confidentiality of client information and adherence to data protection.
- Work collaboratively across departments to support operational, safety and compliance goals.
