The Chemical Technician is responsible for managing chemical production, stock control, warehouse operations, and inventory management activities within the Water Treatment Division.

Reporting to the Chemical Production Warehouse Manager, the role ensures chemicals are manufactured, stored, packaged, and distributed safely and efficiently while maintaining accurate stock records and supporting customer delivery requirements.

The role plays a critical part in ensuring raw materials, finished products, packaging, and consumables are available to meet operational and customer demand.

The Chemical Technician is also responsible for maintaining warehouse standards, supporting compliance requirements, managing chemical production processes, and ensuring all activities are completed in accordance with company procedures and health and safety requirements.

  • Stock Control & Inventory Management
  • Operate stock control systems in accordance with company procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of raw materials, chemicals, finished products, drums, labels, and consumables
  • Arrange the ordering of materials and products from approved suppliers.
  • Ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained to support customer demand and operational requirements.
  • Complete and reconcile periodic stock counts.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock movements and inventory transactions.
  • Ensure availability of pallets and packaging materials for product distribution.

Warehouse Operations

  • Maintain the warehouse in a clean, organised, and safe condition.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming chemical deliveries.
  • Ensure products are stored safely and appropriately.
  • Oversee the preparation of delivery notes and dispatch documentation
  • Ensure goods are packaged, stacked, wrapped, and prepared safely for despatch.
  • Complete daily forklift inspections and maintain operational records.
  • Ensure warehouse equipment remains safe and operational.

Chemical Manufacturing & Production

  • Manufacture chemicals in accordance with approved manufacturing instructions and procedures.
  • Ensure production activities are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Create Bills of Materials for newly manufactured batches.
  • Ensure manufacturing records and documentation are maintained accurately.
  • Monitor batch quality and production standards.
  • Support production planning and workflow management.

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are supplied to customers and maintained appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate product and compliance records.
  • Ensure chemical production and storage activities comply with relevant COSHH and safety requirements.
  • Support quality assurance activities and internal compliance checks.
  • Ensure weighing equipment and scales are calibrated correctly.
  • Promote consistency and quality throughout manufacturing activities.

Operational Support & Logistics

  • Ensure delivery drivers receive the correct documentation and safety information.
  • Support customer fulfilment and product despatch activities.
  • Liaise with warehouse, delivery, and operational teams regarding stock and delivery requirements.
  • Ensure gas cylinders and operational materials remain available for warehouse operations.
  • Support business continuity through effective stock and materials management.
  • Assist with operational improvement initiatives where required.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

Assess tasks for potential hazards before commencing work.

  • Wear appropriate PPE and safety equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure safety showers and emergency equipment are maintained and checked.
  • Report accidents, incidents, hazards, and near misses appropriately.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and movement of chemicals.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across warehouse and production activities.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in stock control and inventory management.
  • Experience working within warehouse operations.
  • Experience handling chemicals and working with COSHH requirements.
  • Experience maintaining operational records and documentation.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, production, or logistics environment.
