The CDI Educator will work under the direction of the CDI Director, and in conjunction with the CDI Manager, Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS), Health Information Management (HIM) Team, and all members of the healthcare team to facilitate and promote standardization across the health-system and ensures alignment of high quality documentation that supports timely, compliant and an accurate representation of the clinical care provided to patients.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Five years acute care hospital experience with recent supervisory experience
- Extensive knowledge of coding principles and guidelines
- Extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems (MS-DRG and APR-DRG), as well as federal, state and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing
- Advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes in an inpatient setting
- Experience with formal education of clinical documentation specialists and providers strongly preferred
- Experience with EPIC, and Clintegrity preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Dependable, self-directed and a pleasant attitude
- Excellent analytical skills under general direction
- Results oriented with demonstrated skills in problem identification and resolution
- Ability to handle multiple work assignments and prioritize work; strong organizational, time and project management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and others as required
- Active membership of ACDIS and/or AHIMA Professional Organizations
- Current NYS driver’s license and reliable means of transportation
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
- RN, PA, NP or MD prepared candidates
- At least 2 years CDI experience, and CCDS certification
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation and retention of CDI staff members
- Provides coaching and mentoring as appropriate
- Assesses and identifies skills competencies and areas of learning and instruction needed for all CDI staff
- Assists in the planning, delivery and evaluation of standardized educational efforts of the CDI department across all hospitals, to ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, consistency, compliance and standards of fulfillment as defined in the RRH, CDI and HIM policies
- Participation in the CDI department education plans in conjunction with the CDI Director and Manager in order to meet department goals and key performance indicators
- Collaborates with HIM department and the CDI department team members to assist in the resolution of DRG mismatches, which includes providing education to the CDI team members as needs are identified
- Effective communication with the other CDI Leadership team members when any identified staff performance issues and/or quality of work performed by staff is identified
- Develops and maintains an education calendar and orientation records for staff; facilitates tracking mechanisms for individual continuing education
- Conducts classroom education as well as individual team member education using a variety of learning and evaluation strategies for all staff
- Utilises data in the most efficient manner and presents data in the most effective and appropriate display for the intended audience
- Maintains current knowledge relating to Clinical Documentation Improvement by attending educational workshops/conferences, reviewing professional publications establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies
- Acts as a CDI subject-matter resource for the clinical documentation specialists, and other members of the healthcare team
- Aides team proficiency with coding rules and regulation changes
- Provides oversight of clinical documentation education provided to the physicians, other providers and ancillary staff in conjunction with the CDI Director and Manager
- Develops and maintains an education calendar for the physicians and other providers; facilitates tracking mechanisms for physician service-line continuing education
- May collect and/or coordinate the collection of data, compile reports and graphs and present findings to the CDI Director and/or CDI manager, CDI Steering Committee, CDI Team Meetings, and/or other appropriate department, facility and system level meetings
- Travel to any of the Rochester Regional hospital sites as needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
PAY RANGE: $83,000.00 - $100,000.00
