In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility, and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary, life-changing innovation at speed.

Strategy, Portfolio & Operations (SPO) is a unified function that serves as the strategic and operational backbone enabling pRED's strategy from lab to clinic. Operating under a dynamic Chapter Model, SPO centralises specialised skills across critical areas, including Sites & Lab Services, Program & Project Management, Strategy, Clinical Operations, External Operations, Capability Development, Core Lab Technology Platforms (360Labs) and Asset Team Leadership. As a trusted partner, SPO fosters a culture of collaboration and accountability to ensure pRED transitions assets smoothly from early research to late-stage development.

At Roche/Genentech Pharma Research and Early Development Clinical Operations (pRED CO), we are determined to transform early drug development and realise our Pharma Ambition to deliver 20 transformative medicines addressing diseases with the highest societal burden by 2029. The pRED Portfolio Strategy & Delivery Lead leads the delivery of one or more of our Discovery & Delivery Areas (DTAs), driving productivity, efficiency and innovation. This senior people leadership position holds significant accountability for the pRED Clinical Operations strategy and execution, as well as enterprise collaboration.

The pRED Portfolio Strategy & Delivery Lead is a senior strategic leader and decision‑maker within Roche pRED Clinical Operations and is responsible and accountable for shaping an industry‑leading CO DTA strategy that successfully delivers the pRED portfolio of programs and studies in the assigned DTA(s). Leads the functional area of responsibility (Asset, Study Management, Data & Technology or People), driving the identification and development of new ways of working to push the boundaries of excellence in delivery and engagement continually.

As the DTA Portfolio Strategy & Delivery Lead, you will:

  • Build, drive, and enhance cross‑functional enterprise collaborations and influence decision‑making across early‑ and late‑stage development, while providing a strong strategic operational voice to remove barriers and align on priorities.
  • Partner with Early Development Heads and Project Team Leaders to translate eSPC and DTA strategies into a coherent pRED CO delivery portfolio strategy that balances business needs with budgets and resources.
  • Serve as the primary decision‑maker for prioritising strategic operational DTA decisions, collaborating across early and late‑stage teams to optimise day‑to‑day execution.
  • Leverage data analytics, informatics, and AI to drive data‑driven decision‑making, while working cross‑functionally with CO leadership to refine delivery strategies, overcome performance challenges, and enhance both operational efficiency and employee engagement.

As the voice for pRED in your therapeutic area(s) you must proactively identify, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with senior leaders across the Roche Enterprise to ensure early development representation and influence for the end‑to‑end delivery of the portfolio, including late‑stage Development and Roche Diagnostics.

Proactively identify, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with key external partners including patient advocacy organisations, Therapeutic Area Experts (TAE), Health Authorities, vendors in accordance with our sourcing strategy, and key development partners. By exemplifying our Roche values and Leadership commitments and modelling our Roche Operating principles, you will ensure we achieve our ambitions for our people and patients.

As an experienced People Leader, your accountabilities include:

  • Lead one of the functional areas of responsibility (Asset, Study Management, Data & Technology or People) to foster a culture and mindset of performance delivery, ownership and innovation.
  • Articulate the strategic direction for your functional area of responsibility with a strong focus on talent development, effective resource deployment, and future capability development to meet the future needs of a dynamic portfolio.
  • Lead change management to embed new operating models that increase productivity, speed and quality for pRED CO and across the CO Enterprise that realise our ambition of an industry‑leading organisation.
  • Drive CO‑wide engagement by fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and high performance.
  • Regular year‑round assessment of performance, contributions, and impact and providing feedback, coaching and performance management.
  • Lead and develop a matrixed organisation of employees, including direct reports who may be people leaders themselves.
  • Define the direction, framework, and ways of working for People Leaders across the CO organisation to align with overall business strategy.
  • Anticipate future capability needs to lead workforce evolution in alignment with shifting portfolio and business demands.
