The Position
Pharmaceutical Industrial Placement in Pharma Biosample Services
We are offering a non-laboratory office based opportunity to one Industrial Placement student with interest in understanding clinical trial development and patients biosample and data management. In this role, the selected candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including operational and data experts who support the execution of biosample and biomarker strategies that are critical for translating patient samples into new medicines.
This position is located in Pharma Biosample Services (PBS), a department within the PD (Pharma Development) organization of Roche. PBS enables to source, access, and unlock the increased scientific insight from samples and sample data . PBS takes accountability at Roche for patient samples that are stored long-term. We ensure the continued preservation and responsible management of biosamples, relieving study teams of logistical burden and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Although located within the PD organisation, PBS works globally across business partners (early and late development) to enable Roche scientists to optimally use patient samples available for research to better understand diseases and treatments.
During the placement you will be based in the Roche UK offices at the Welwyn Garden City site. This is not a laboratory based placement and candidates will be required to be based in the office.
The successful candidate will receive full training in the specific Sample Long Term Storage process, and will be supported by experienced employees that will provide coaching, mentoring and oversight on a day-to-day basis (they may not be colocated but the team is working globally very efficiently).
Your Impact
You will be in charge of managing long-term sample storage requests, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure seamless and compliant sample transfers to their designated storage locations.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Management of long-term storage (LTS) requests and collaboration with Roche global requesters, PBS colleagues and external storage partners.

Explain the LTS process to requesters and provide relevant documentation.

Ensure appropriate templates are used for the setup and import of sample data.

Review requests and clarify details when required.

Inform requesters of sample storage locations for sample shipment.

Ensure correct sample and study data standards are linked to stored samples.

Resolve queries and improve processes analysing issue trends using a centralized issue log

Optionally be able to contribute to Welwyn site-wide events and projects (e.g Wellbeing, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion).
Your profile
You should be an undergraduate in your second year of your Bachelor’s degree in life sciences background. We are looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, inclusive environment which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development. You are interested in understanding and applying project management principles. You are interested in clinical trial patient biosample collection and ethical use that deliver data to drive decision making. You are resourceful and flexible in problem solving and working in a collaborative and inclusive manner. You have a sense for ensuring that everyone has the required information at all times.
You are equipped with strong planning and organizational skills which give you the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time. Your skills and experience allows you to be a professional, reliable, collaborative and team-oriented employee.
