Rochdale Council have an exciting opportunity for a passionate community safety professional to join our fast-paced team as a Community Safety Officer. Previous experience of working in the field of Community Safety is essential. We will also further develop the successful candidate as part of our continuous professional development offer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate crime and anti-social behaviour prevention/reduction work, activities, seasonal campaigns, days of action and legal action to support the achievement of our community safety priorities.
  • Provide a flexible investigative and problem-solving approach to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour across the borough; employ evidence gathering techniques, including interviewing victims, witnesses and perpetrators and preparation of statements and case files to successfully obtain civil antisocial behaviour orders.
  • Coordinate partnership meetings focused on anti-social behaviour and related crime and disorder (including young people), addressing threat, risk and harm to local communities and identifying & safeguarding vulnerable individuals through collaborative problem solving.
  • Work from the Partnership Hub at Rochdale Police Station and access police data, information and intelligence; satisfy Greater Manchester Police vetting processes prior to commencement of employment.
  • Operate within the Community Safety & Resilience Service which covers the award-winning Number One Riverside council building, Rochdale Police Station, and other locations across the borough as required.
  • Occasionally work early mornings, evenings and weekends dependent on operational need; drive RBC vehicles and be able to drive independently throughout the borough.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of statutory duties relating to community safety under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and the legal powers available under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
  • Experience in evidence gathering techniques, including interviewing victims, witnesses and perpetrators, and preparation of statements and case files.
  • Ability to identify and safeguard vulnerable individuals through collaborative problem solving; excellent interpersonal skills and a thorough, positive approach to work.
  • Must satisfy Greater Manchester Police vetting processes prior to commencement of employment.
  • Full driving licence and ability to drive independently across the borough.
