Rochdale Additional Needs Service, Sensory team (Hearing Impairment Team) is looking to appoint a part-time (13 hours term-time only) permanent, peripatetic Specialist Teaching Assistant to start on 1st September 2026. The successful applicant will be based at Number One Riverside, Smith Street, Rochdale, OL16 1XU and will work with deaf/hard of hearing children and young people (CYP), their families (home visits), schools (mainstream, special and pre-school settings) and other professionals.
Our service aims to support CYP to develop their skills to become independent and active members in school and within their community. We aim to remove barriers to learning to improve participation, progress and independence. We work closely with CYP, families, settings/schools and other agencies, providing specialist advice, training, teaching and assessment where appropriate.
The successful applicant will be appointed to the Sensory Team β Children with a Hearing Impairment within Rochdale Additional Needs Service. You will join a team that has high expectations and is raising standards by providing high-quality support to Deaf/hard of hearing CYP, their families and settings.
You will need to have a solution-focused approach to meeting individual CYP needs and be willing to adopt alternative strategies to ensure positive outcomes for all our CYP. A willingness to learn new skills and a positive 'can do' attitude is vital.
