An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our professional and friendly Committee Services Team which supports the Council’s decision-making and governance processes and the Council’s 60 elected councillors. This permanent, full-time role includes supporting the effective management of formal meetings of the Council including the preparation of agendas and formal minutes and the provision of procedural advice in line with the Council’s Constitution.
The post-holder will also be responsible for the day-to-day provision of general advice and guidance to councillors, senior officers and members of the public. An interest in local government and commitment to high standards and continuous improvement are essential.
The successful candidate will have strong administrative and IT skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills, good organisational ability and be able to work to multiple and tight deadlines. Knowledge of legislation and procedures relating to local authority meetings is also needed.
The role requires the ability to deal with issues sensitively, together with a level of political awareness and the ability to remain politically impartial at all times. We would welcome applications from those with existing knowledge and experience. If applicable, the offer of a position may be made to a candidate who has demonstrated the potential to succeed in the role, but who lacks significant levels of experience.
This is a career graded post offering the opportunity to start at grade 4 with potential progression to grade 6. In the role you will be supported with a training package that includes ‘on the job’ work experience and the undertaking of an ADSO Certificate in Democratic Services Knowledge (a training programme which requires the appointee to demonstrate their knowledge against a set of learning outcomes and assessment criteria). For those with relevant experience in a Committee Services role there is potential to start on a higher grade.
Grade 4 salary £26,403 - £28,142 per annum Grade 5 salary £28,598 - £31,022 per annum Grade 6 salary £32,061 - £35,412 per annum Casual User Car Allowance is payable. Politically restricted post. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
